Scottish Youth Theatre announces SQA accredited six-week Summer Festival course for participants aged 16-25.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Scottish Youth Theatre is proud to introduce\u00a0an exciting new six-week summer course, offering a vocational alternative to school and college qualifications, and focussing on active, practical learning for young people.<\/p>\n

The newly SQA accredited Performance and Production\u00a0Learning Programme<\/strong> will this year run alongside Scottish Youth Theatre\u2019s annual flagship event, Summer Festival, and is open to applicants from all over Scotland and\u00a0beyond aged 16 – 25.<\/p>\n

Successful completion of the course will afford participants a qualification that sits between the Higher\/Advance Higher level <\/strong>on the SCQF worth a total of 29 credit points.<\/p>\n

The Performance and Production Learning Programme is the first course of its kind in Scotland.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cThe company is delighted to be able to offer this opportunity to achieve an accredited practical qualification to all young people in Scotland especially those who may not have been able to achieve an academic award in a formal set up\u201d, says Mary McCluskey, Scottish Youth Theatre Artistic Director and Chief Executive. \u201cHaving the SCQF and SQA seal of approval reflects the intensity and calibre of the course. And the award to be gained on completion of the course gives participants credit points as proof of their dedication to the course\u201d.<\/p>\n

Now in its 36th year, Summer Festival offers performance courses for young people from all over Scotland ages 8-25. All courses have a clear progression route leading to the Performance and\u00a0Production Course.<\/p>\n

Former participant Andrew Still, recently cast in Hollyoaks, fully recommends getting involved in Summer Festival to other like minded young people. \u201cI\u2019ve taken part in two Summer Festivals and they really opened my eyes to the world of performing. I think it\u2019s so exciting that participants can now achieve a qualification at the end of the course. It\u2019s satisfying but a lot of hard work. The chance to gain an award that reflects this will appeal to many young performers\u201d.<\/p>\n
