Scotland’s first National Conservation Centre for training young people in traditional building skills is to be established in Stirling.
The Government’s new Young Scots Fund will contribute towards a National Conservation Centre based at two locations in Stirling, in a partnership between Historic Scotland, Stirling Council and Forth Valley College.

Under 13s win Folk Group competition at Mòd nan Eilean Siar
Bun-sgoil Bharbhais in Lewis are winners of the Folk Group Competition for under 13 year olds at Mòd nan Eilean Siar sponsored by The Highland Council and Fujitsu. The Folk Group is an open category of competition for which groups have to sing two songs of their own choice with accompaniments of musical instruments.

Pupils from Duncanrig Secondary School and the associated Communication Support Base (CSB) which caters for pupils with autism spectrum disorders, have been taking the radio airwaves by storm with their very own radio project. The pupils have been performing their own radio shows on community radio. The project was set up to support inclusion in a realistic and fun setting way, as well as enhancing communication skills. Pupils showcased their work at the recent Scottish Learning Festival and also took the opportunity to interview Cabinet Secretary for Education and Lifelong Learning, Michael Russell, on the day.
Deaf Youth Theatre
Creative Scotland reports that Eastenders actor, John Partridge, made a surprise visit north of the border last week to see some of the work being done by Solar Bear Theatre Company with their Deaf Youth Theatre (DYT). DYT offers young people aged 12-21 from across Scotland access to weekly drama workshops. The workshops are attended by young people of varying hearing abilities.
Co-Create Project Films

SLF 2011 – Creativity Lab film now viewable
As part of Creative Scotland’s presence at the Scottish Learning Festival 2011, the Molecules in Motion team worked collaboratively with 23 pupils from Gavinburn Primary School in West Dunbartonshire to produce a Creativity Lab. Festival delegates were invited to visit the Lab, where they could experience a busy working studio and witness the team at work. The Creativity Lab film provides a great insight into the project and those involved in making it happen.
In the run-up to the festival, Molecules in Motion and the pupils also produced four ‘How To’ videos to support the project, and provide a resource for teachers. Centred around a theme of Wow and Flutter, the films document the team’s preparation for the festival, as they explored the scientific and creative aspects of recording & editing soundtracks, print making, animation and dance.

A Little Bit of Barber – Scottish Opera Bite Sized
The bite-sized performances are an ideal opportunity for anyone new to opera to give it a try – in a venue near them without having to book and completely for free.
The show will be popping up at a variety of unusual venues right through October including Clydebank Shopping Centre, Glasgow’s new Riverside Museum, Stirling Castle, Edinburgh’s Farmer’s Market and Surgeons’ Hall, Perth Royal Infirmary and Duthie Park’s Winter Garden. It follows on from a busy summer for the A Little Bit of…team who’ve already toured pop-up versions of previous Scottish Opera productions at the likes of T in the Park and Belladrum music festivals, Edinburgh Castle, IKEA and even a multi-storey car park in Inverness!

Creative Scotland and Young Scot have launched their new joint venture, the Creative Enterprise Fund, to support young people aged 15-22 years to develop their creative talents and fulfil their ambitions within the creative industries.

Pupils compete to design a game app for mobiles
Dundee City Council announces that the creativity of two teams of pupils from a Dundee secondary school has put them in prime position to see their ideas brought to life. Picked from more than 700 entries, two groups from Menzieshill High School will be battling it out in the final stage of the Arnold Clark Schools’ Challenge. Tasked with creating an idea for a game app suitable for a mobile device, seven pupils, all in S5 and S6 at Menzieshill High School have reached the last 10.
