Live stream of Stellar Quines stage play rehearsal

Stellar Quines is venturing into the world of live streaming. We are live streaming our Rehearsal Room 17 on Thursday 26 January 2012 which will take place at the Traverse. The List by Jennifer Tremblay will be rehearsed during the day by directors Muriel Romanes and Emma Faulkner and actress Maureen Beattie, then given a rehearsed reading in the evening followed by a discussion in Traverse Two.

The sections being live streamed are two hours of the rehearsal in the afternoon, 2pm – 4pm, and the evening performance and discussion which will start at 7.30pm and end by 9pm. There will be an attached moderated chat room, linked twitter etc and you can view it all through the website for our next show ANA which is www.stellarquines.com/ana Hope to see you there either in person or online.

Bits 2 Blogs is the regional e-learning event for museum, library and archive professionals. It provides a varied day of presentations and workshops that:

•Showcase the ways in which digital technologies and social media are being used to support and enhance educational programmes in the cultural heritage sector.
•Demonstrate how social media can be used to build engaging relationships with our audiences.
•Provide practical demonstrations of technologies that are relevant and affordable to the sector.
•Demand no prior experience. Bits 2 Blogs is specifically designed to inspire and appeal to all!

Chris Wild, creator of the award winning blog, ‘How to be a Retronaut’. Featured on BBC Radio 5 Live,

Nick Stanhope of ‘History Pin’ update on progress of this exciting project.

Mark Batey, how to plan and create engaging video material

Mike Ellis of Thirty8 Digital tackles the question ‘What the hell are we supposed to do with mobile?’. Should cultural heritage organisations be developing apps, building mobile-friendly pages, or ignoring mobile and hoping it’ll go away?

Philip Graham of the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland – ‘Learning to let go: Social Media at RCAHMS’.

Jeremiah Alexander of Newcastle based company Ideonic will present Hidden Newcastle, an innovative digital project inviting people to search for and discover the hidden lives and stories of Newcastle.

Only four weeks left for pupils to get creative for conservation

Friday 10 February is the last date for entries to be received for this Creative Challenge. The National Trust for Scotland is asking secondary school pupils to design an interactive, environmentally-themed game to take out on the road next summer.

The Trust launched its competition at Ben Lomond near Drymen, Scotland’s most southerly Munro. Ben Lomond is one of the most popular mountains in Scotland, with around 30,000 walkers of all ages visiting it each year. Helping Trust staff at the launch were pupils from Drymen Primary, who were photographed doing their best to try and figure out some initial ideas. The Ben Lomond Design Competition challenges teams of pupils to invent a portable, interactive game which is easy to set up and explain, is fun for all ages and which highlights how we need to conserve our environment.

The Trust hopes that the new family activity will raise awareness of its work to care for Scotland’s countryside and wildlife. For full information and an entry pack visit: http://www.nts.org.uk/designcompetition.

Creativity Portal welcomes The Arches to the Creative Directory

The Arches presents experimental and risk taking performance by local and international artists, in addition to this we support the development of emergent Scottish artists . The Creative Learning Programme at The Arches develops bespoke Creative Learning activity in and out of the building. The premise for this activity is that we believe that all people have the capacity to be creative and we are interested in facilitating experiences that offer participants a creative opportunity to express their opinions about the world and ‘realize’ the artist within in them.

8½ Foundation – A magical new movie birthday for kids

The 8½ Foundation, founded by Tilda Swinton and Mark Cousins, has celebrated sending their 2000th DVD to a Scottish child by releasing ‘Movie Magic in a Box’, a magical animation from award-winning director Alice Nelson.
