Stills Young Photographers Club – 15-17 year olds

Stills’ is a vibrant platform for creativity that provide the best photographic darkrooms and digital production facilities in Scotland. Stills Young Photographers Club are offering young people age 15-17 and exciting opportunity to develop their own photographic projects using Still’s facilities whilst being supported by two photographer artists.

This is a ten week course running weekly from Friday 12th September – Friday 21 November from 2pm – 4pm concluding with an exhibition in Stills’ showcasing the photographs produced by the young photographers.

The course costs just £90 and includes all equipment and materials. The course is open to anyone with an interest in photography and can be booked online, over the phone or in person.

Flash Fiction Writing Competition 2014

The Special Collections Centre is home to the University’s historic collections of books, manuscripts, archives and photographs.

For the third year running the Special Collections Centre is running a Flash Fiction Competition for Book Week Scotland. Get inspired by four fabulous images from the rare books and archives collections and send in your 500-word short story. Prizes to be won for both children and adult categories! Applications open for YDance Routes Connections Weekend, audition for the National Youth Dance Company of Scotland, Inclusive Dance Training Opportunity, back to school and the 2014 Scottish Learning Festival.
APPLICATIONS OPEN FOR YDANCE ROUTES CONNECTIONS ON MONDAY
#YDanceRoutes Connections is back for 2014 and applications open this Monday (18 August). We’re heading to Edinburgh College again for 2 and a bit days of fantastic dance workshops – Fri 24 to Sun 26 October 2014.

As usual we’re doing things on a first come first served basis so make sure that you get your form in quickly. We’re also asking for a £10 non-refundable deposit per person this year, to cover the cost of food for the weekend, which you also need to give us with your application.

AUDITION FOR THE NATIONAL YOUTH DANCE COMPANY OF SCOTLAND
For the very first time we’re opening up auditions for the National Youth Dance Company of Scotland to any young dancer aged 16 to 21.

This is a unique opportunity to be part of a flagship company who represent Scotland at key events and festivals, locally, nationally and internationally.

If you’re aged 16 to 21, have an interest and passion for dance and are free to rehearse one weekend a month then this could be for you.

FREE INCLUSIVE DANCE TRAINING COURSE OPPORTUNITY
Dance Artists and Professionals have the chance to take part in this free inclusive working session led by the fantastic Caroline Bowditch – 10am to 1pm on 26 August at The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

Funded by the Glasgow 2014 Access Fund this is an excellent opportunity to explore inclusive practice, what it means to you as a practitioner and how it can enhance your work.

Skills for the Future – National Parent Forum of Scotland National Conference

Focusing on skills this year, the National Parent Forum of Scotland Annual Conference will be held on Saturday 4 October at Bishopbriggs Academy. It’s free to attend and all are welcome.

Sir Ian Wood, Chair of the Commission for Developing Scotland’s Young Workforce and Dr Alasdair Allan, Minister for Learning, Science and Scotland’s Languages, are the keynote speakers. There will be a Q&A session for delegates to put their questions about education to a panel featuring representatives from SQA, Education Scotland and others.
