Creativity Banners now available in all local authorities

Your local Creative Learning Network now have high quality pull up banners available to loan that offer deep learning opportunities for creativity across learning, creativity and employability and creativity for attainment. The set of 5 pull-up banners offer an informative and dramatic display for any creativity themed event or project you may be planning. They can be used as discussion materials for CLPL, to stimulate activities with learners, and as easy to digest resources for classrooms and staffrooms. As well as relating directly to Quality Indicator 3.3 in How Good Is Our School 4 they offer a key component in any work around skills for life, learning and work and Developing the Young Workforce.

Colourful posters, exploring creativity skills for learners and staff, are currently being delivered to every ELCC centre in Scotland as part of Education Scotland’s work on the national Creative Learning Plan.

The posters support learners, teachers and leaders in sharing a common understanding of creativity skills, and their place across all areas of the curriculum.

Free CPD at Royal Conservatoire of Scotland: Theatre Production Careers Day

Theatre Production Careers Information Day at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland

Monday 8 May

Sign up now for a free CPD event at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, tailored especially for Art and Design teachers and Technology teachers who work with pupils interested in a theatre production career.

The day will run from 10am–3.30pm and include a tour of the campus, theatre spaces and production facilities, as well as sessions on career opportunities, and the various theatre production pathways and programmes RCS offers.

There will also be guidance on how teachers can support pupils through their production application and interview processes.

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT: United Nations recognizes World Creativity and Innovation Day, April 21

On April 20, 2017,  Rhonda King, Permanent Representative/Ambassador to the United Nations from St. Vincent and the Grenadines will read a UN resolution on the floor of the General Assembly to include World Creativity and Innovation Day, April 21, among the UN Days of Observance which includes Earth Day, Water Day, World Humanitarian Day, and the like.

In her 10-minute speech, Ms. King will emphasize the importance of using creativity to meet the 2030 UN Sustainable Development Goals: 17 Goals to Transform the World

Friends, I urge you to do a few things:

  1. Review the UN Sustainable Development Goals, and choose one to creatively champion (even in one small way) with your family, friends, clients and colleagues this year and every year forward; in the coming months we will be collecting your stories so keep a record, and stay tuned!
  2. Gather with others to Watch Permanent Representative I. Rhonda King deliver her speech on Thursday, April 20, 2017, at 10:00 Eastern Time on UNWebTv
  3. Celebrate, celebrate, celebrate! on April 21st; the UN is sanctioning using creativity in problem-solving to transform the world.
  4. List your celebration (it’s free!) here for others to see.

Robert Louis Stevenson – Creative Writing Competition for S4-S6

S4-S6 learners can enter a creative writing competition based upon the works of Robert Louis Stevenson.

Prizes for the competition

The entries will be judged by acclaimed author Louise Welsh, who will also lead a writing workshop for the best entrants, with up to twelve places on offer. All those selected will receive a certificate and a year’s free membership of the Edinburgh Robert Louis Stevenson Club.

In addition, four individual awards of £100 are available for Fiction, Reflective Writing, Poetry and Writing in Scots (in any of these three forms). There will also a trophy for the overall winner’s school.

Fiction, Reflective Writing, Poetry

The piece submitted should be directly inspired by Stevenson’s writing or some aspect of his life. Candidates should write a brief paragraph describing this stimulus and how it has influenced them to write.

We encourage entries written in

Scots or in English.

Creative writing produced for SQA folio work may be submitted.

Prose items should be no more than

1500 words, poetry no more than 40 lines.

Choose one of our visit options – from half-days, to full-days or even whole school engagements, pick your day and let us know what your themes/topics are. Visits can including a tour, a workshop or even a Minecraft experience with our new App (launching at the Science Festival in April). We want to hear from you and find out how we can help you achieve your aims and outcomes when you come and visit us.

 

Fill in our short application form by 31 March 2017 for visits between August and November.
