Perth and Kinross Council reports thatpupils from Our Lady’s RC Primary School in Letham visited Huntingtower Castle on Thursday 26 April 2012 to hand over a wall hanging they have made, inspired by their recent studies of the Castle and its history.
Our Lady’s Primary School have been participating in Living Communities, an exciting project funded by Perth & Kinross Council and the Gannochy Trust, with the aim of bringing local heritage alive.
Positive and inspiring use of the internet is at the heart of the Childnet Film Challenge 2012. Childnet is inviting all schools and youth organisations in the UK to enter their challenge. Two separate projects are in place for primary and secondary aged children.
This year’s themes are: Primary: The internet can make your life much easier, let me show you! Secondary: ‘I’m a technophobe, get me out of here!’ Can you convert a technophobe to the wonders of the internet?

All shortlisted finalists will be invited to a private screening of their film with Childnet’s judging panel at a cinema in central London and will be awarded some great prizes.
Midlothian Council has launched a poetry competition for primary pupils in the county. Prizes include a visit to a factory to see what happens to materials collected for recycling and to find out more about what they can be turned into, a recycling goody bag and the chance for pupils to star in their own video reading their award-winning entry. The winning poem will also be printed in the council’s waste aware trailer which will be visiting gala days across the county this summer.

Take One Action – Scotland’s global action cinema project – is organising it’s second Young Action Heroes Project for young people and their educators/youth workers at the Macrobert Centre in Stirling in late August 2012. We are keen to hear from schools and youth groups who want to take part in the residential and then screen a film to inspire action in others!

Edinburgh Student Council are hosting a Creative Learning conference on March 5th at the National Museum of Scotland. A planning group of pupils from 4 Edinburgh Secondary schools came up with all the workshop ideas, leading the way in Creative Learning.
A free exhibition is being held in Cupar’s Corn Exchange on Friday 27 April to showcase a series of photographs taken by the town’s schoolchildren. Pupils from the four primary and secondary schools in Cupar have been working with a professional photographer on the project to inspire their community to be more active. During the two-month ‘Be Active – Art in the Windows’ project the children were taught many different ways to be active, and were then encouraged to photograph their efforts around the town.
Scottish Book Trust will be starting its new Authors Live programme with two online events. These events are free and are available to watch live for everyone in the UK.
