Higher Dance training courses 2011

A range of training programmes from one day courses to four day intensives. This is aimed at dance specialists and teachers delivering the SQA accredited Higher dance course and looking to develop theirskills or for tutors not yet delivering the course.

9.30 – 4.30pm

This four day intensive training programme will cover all the elements involved in the Higher dance course. This course is highly practical in nature and aimed at dance specialists or individuals currently teaching or about to deliver the Higher dance course. Each day will focus on one of the different techniques to be covered and the participants will learn six different set dances contained within the NABs. There will be time allocated to the written element with examples of students work and a practical session on the choreographic element focusing on use of themes, choreographic structure and choreographic devices.

Queen Margaret Academy Five Minute Theatre Spectacular

A group of South Ayrshire Council pupils will have the opportunity to showcase their acting talents to the world next month when they take part in a national theatre project.  The 25 S2 pupils from Queen Margaret Academy in Ayr were selected from thousands of entries to take part in the National Theatre of Scotland Five Minute Theatre project.

Daily What News photo competition

The Daily What have launched a search for a young photojournalist as their final end-of-year competition.  During the summer holidays The Daily What News website will publish a slideshow of the best 10 pictures taken by their readers. If you know any pupils who like taking pictures, either with a camera or even on their phone, please encourage them to enter.

You can now register to attend this year’s Scottish Learning Festival – which as usual includes the Cultural Village. This year there are some really exciting developments happening and we shall keep you updated as they develop!

Glow Science – exciting new resources for learners

Glow Science covers the four science disciplines: biology, chemistry, physics and earth science. The website has just been updated with 130 new short films focussing on chemistry and physics, and covering everything from the periodic table to Newton’s laws of motion.

Music and Me: Innovative new scheme uses music to develop emotional literacy in nursery children

East Lothian Council announces that ‘Music and Me’ is a new scheme, piloted at Wallyford and Whitecraig Primaries, which seeks to develop early literacy and emotional literacy skills in nursery children.  The successful pilot has led to the development of a resource pack, which is about to be rolled out to all East Lothian nurseries, and training for staff who want to use ‘Music and Me’ will be taking place in Autumn 2011.

Creative Scotland announces that the Robert Burns Birthplace Museum in Ayrshire has been short listed for the Art Fund Prize 2011 – the £100,000 prize for the ‘Museum of the Year’.
