The Year of Creative Scotland 2012 is a unique opportunity to celebrate Scotland’s talent as a creative nation. The Year begins on 1 January 2012 and is a chance to showcase, celebrate and promote Scotland’s cultural and creative strengths. Through a dynamic and exciting year-long programme of activity celebrating our world-class events, festivals, culture and heritage, the Year puts Scotland’s culture and creativity in the international spotlight.

Swallows and Amazons Story Competition
We’re very excited about the Scottish premiere of the smash-hit stage adaptation of Swallows & Amazons – the classic tale of mysterious islands, dastardly pirates and young adventurers.
Help us celebrate by telling us about the biggest adventure you’ve ever had. Have you been camping in the wilds, sailed on the sea or slept under the stars? The most action-packed and exciting story wins a Family Ticket (2 adults and 2 children) to the Scottish Premiere at Festival Theatre Edinburgh on 31st January at 7pm.
The winning writer will also get the chance to tell their story live at the Scottish Storytelling Centre’s Telling Tales event on the 28th April. You will be treated to some coaching and tips on how to present your story to an audience with the help of event organiser and storyteller extraordinaire Tim Porteus.

Seafood Scotland Launches Schools Art Competition
Seafood Scotland has teamed up with the 6th World Fisheries Congress to offer a competition that encourages school children to learn more about the relationship between scientists and fisheries, and how this helps to protect the marine ecosystem.
High school and primary school pupils taking part in Seafood Scotland’s ‘Seafood in Schools’ pilot project are being asked to design a T-shirt for delegates at the Congress, which will be held in Edinburgh in May 2012. The design must illustrate the association between seafood and science.

Students with an eye for design have the chance to win a prize – by taking part in a competition to design a logo for Scotland’s National Food and Drink Conference. The winning logo will be printed on shopping bags and promotional material for the March conference.

Free access to Glasgow Science Centre for Glasgow Schools
Glasgow’s primary schools are being given free access to the Glasgow Science Centre’s education programme. The council has agreed to provide its primary school classes with free sessions at the exciting educational activities available at the Science Centre.The year-long initiative will enable more than 35,000 pupils access to the array of workshops, live science shows and interactive exhibits currently on offer at the Centre. The sessions, which also include lessons in the Planetarium, are linked to the Curriculum for Excellence (CfE) experiences and outcomes.

Scotland-wide celebrations for the Year of Creative Scotland 2012 have been mapped out by the Cabinet Secretary for Culture and External Affairs. On a visit to Glasgow Print Studio, Fiona Hyslop unveiled a map representing our creative nation by artist Murray Robertson as she confirmed more details of the 2012 programme.
