Higher Dance Training Courses


FOUR DAY INTENSIVE COURSE – Monday 17 October to Thursday 20 October 2011
9.30 – 4.30pm

This four day intensive training programme will cover all the elements involved in the Higher dance course. This course is highly practical in nature and aimed at dance specialists or individuals currently teaching or about to deliver the Higher dance course. Each day will focus on one of the different techniques to be covered and the participants will learn six different set dances contained within the NABs. There will be time allocated to the written element with examples of students work and a practical session on the choreographic element focusing on use of themes, choreographic structure and choreographic devices.

• ONE DAY OPTION
If the four day course is too intensive or you have done some of the training before then please ask for the course outline which details which styles of dance are studied on which day and then choose to do just one day if you prefer.

Standard rate – £60 per day or £180 for four days
Freelance artists / students – £50 per day or £150 for four days

2 New Glow Cookbooks – Standard Grade Music – Using a wiki for project work and A Glow Group using a Graphical Interface

Irene Steward is a Principal teacher of Music at Bellshill Academy in North Lanarkshire. She began using Glow quite recently, encouraged by her own son’s use of Glow in primary school. She saw the potential for her secondary pupils to be accessing materials from home and also to be able to ask questions on Discussion Boards for help with their homework. Her son’s obvious enjoyment of using Glow made her think that her pupils would be motivated by using it.

Off the page 2011 – literature, Gaelic and music

The sixth Off the Page is being held from the 10th – 17th September and once more includes an exciting array of events for both adults and children.   A varied programme includes an afternoon for budding authors meeting authors, Doug Jackson and Nicola Morgan and publicist, Bob McDevitt, who will pass on their experiences in the world of publishing.  An Evening of Gaelic is being held in the Tolbooth Attic, featuring local and national talent bringing music, poetry and storytelling in the Gaelic language.

Hip-hop culture: a primary motivator – Case Study

The project initially developed out of the need to support and motivate a group of learners. Primary 7 can be a testing and challenging time for many young people. They are developing physically, emotionally and may be anxiously anticipating the transition to high school. The dance project was an excellent vehicle to focus the learners in a positive way.

The breakdancing programme promoted a strong sense of teamwork and respect for others, as well as highlighting the importance of collaboration and listening to each other during tasks. For example, this occured while constructing dance routines as a group. This linked directly to the health and wellbeing organiser of mental, emotional, social and physical wellbeing.

Exploring object-based learning: Hands On guide

The Hands On guide, produced by Museums Galleries Scotland (MGS) in partnership with Glasgow Museums, is a step-by-step guide to using everyday and museum objects, as well as paintings, inside and outside the classroom.  The guide is aimed at early, first and second level teachers and practitioners. However, the thinking frameworks used in the guide and the tips for museum visits will be useful for teachers at any level.

Using Glow, the Creativity Forum and Glow Meet we will engage in debate and discussion around creativity and its use in the classroom and community centre, its value and definition, and the opportunities and obstacles to sharing the agenda with our partners and colleagues in education.

There will be Glow Meets at specific times – especially for those who have never tried Glow Meet before or are slightly afraid – and CPD sessions on the Creativity Portal and associated Glow tools. Outside of these the Creativity Forum and Glow Meet will be available throughout the week for you to share and discuss whenever you have the time or something to say.

This is an ideal opportunity to:

Gain confidence and knowledge in Glow Meet.
Gain confidence in Glow Forum.
Network with national creative organisations and Creative Learning Networks – ‘face to face’.
