No boundaries – Hazelwood School art exhibition

Youngsters and staff at Hazelwood School, for children with sensory impairments, will be guests of honour at a special preview reception to celebrate the opening of their art exhibition at Tramway.

The exhibition, with over 35 framed pieces in a variety of mediums, is the culmination of a six week project initiated by the artist Sarah Duke and funded by the R.S MacDonald Trust.

The exhibition opens to the public on Friday 26 November and will run until Sunday 12 December.

The artwork is for sale with all donations going to the school.

Monica McGeever, Hazelwood’s head teacher, is delighted her children’s artwork will be on display in Tramway’s gallery and said: “The youngsters have loved working with the artist in residence and it’s such an honour that their efforts and hard work is being rewarded with a professional art show.

“The children were encouraged to express their feelings and the results are something very special.  I am so proud of them all and delighted that their families and the general public will be able to view the school’s artistic talents.”

Admission is free and Tramway is open Tuesday – Friday 10am – 5pm and Saturday and Sunday 12noon – 6pm

‘One Minute Movie Competition’ for 14-19 year olds

Glasgow Youth Film Festival 2011 has joined up with Chew TV again to launch our very successful ‘One Minute Movie Competition’.

The competition is open to anyone in Scotland aged 14 – 19 years old.

This year’s competition is specially themed – we’re looking for films under 60 seconds about the best kept secrets in your neighbourhood! The films can be about your favourite childhood memory, where your friends hang out every weekend or anything unique to where you live. The judges are looking for all types of creative and imaginative films: comedies, dramas, animations, documentaries.

The best filmmakers will be rewarded with special prizes! One of the prizes will be an Alienware laptop worth £800, kindly supplied by Muvizu for Best Individual film.

The winning entries will be announced at special ceremony during GYFF and the winners will also be invited to screen their films at The Arches.

The closing date for entries to be uploaded is Tuesday 1 February 2011 at 6pm.

Shared Practice for Creative Teachers – Scottish Book Trust Online Teacher in Residence is an online community aimed at teachers in Scotland with a particular interest in creative approaches to literacy, language and writing within Curriculum for Excellence.

Here, at the hub of the community, teachers will be able to access and share ideas, resources and various CPD opportunities with colleagues from across the country.

Robots bring engineering to life for Abercromby pupils

Clackmannanshire Council announces that pupils at Abercromby Primary will show off their science skills when they ‘Engineer a Robot’ this week.


Scottish-based IBM volunteers will be visiting the Tullibody school on Tuesday 23 November where they will demonstrate that technology can be fun as they work with the P7 classes.

First Steps in Screenwriting at The RSAMD

Following the success of our Filmworks course, First Steps in Screenwriting, earlier this year, we will be running it again starting in January 2011. The ten-week course is suitable for young people aged 15 to 19.

Glasgow Youth Film Festival and BIG GIVE launch celebration

Monday December 6 at 4.30pm.

The schools programme launch will take place in the upstairs bar of the Glasgow Film Theatre. We’d love it if you could join us.

Tempting festive refreshments will be provided! After the launch, we’ll be offering complimentary tickets to the 5.40pm screening of The Social Network (12A, captioned).

We’ll be unveiling the schools lineup for GYFF 11, which features premieres, workshops and special events for nursery to S6, along with teaching resources tailored to Curriculum for Excellence. We will also introduce our youth ambassadors, who helped select events for the Festival and will tell you about our fundraising campaign The Big Give.

The launch is a perfect opportunity to socialise with teachers who love film and to be the first to book GYFF 11 events. Thanks to Glasgow City Council Education Services, GYFF 11 schools events are FREE to Glasgow schools!

Glow Meet – Surreal encounters at the National Galleries of Scotland

Join us for a peek into the weird and wonderful world of Surrealism…. .what it is and who did it.
We’ll be challenging you to take part in some quick fire tasks, in the hope of learning just what made the Surrealists tick.
To take part in this fun glow meet at 2pm on Thursday 18 November; you will need to organize a few things beforehand:
