{"id":211,"date":"2020-08-18T14:43:34","date_gmt":"2020-08-18T13:43:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/gc\/thornwoodpri\/?page_id=211"},"modified":"2025-06-05T10:25:12","modified_gmt":"2025-06-05T09:25:12","slug":"girfec","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/gc\/thornwoodpri\/staff-and-curriculum\/girfec\/","title":{"rendered":"GIRFEC"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Getting it Right for Every Child<\/h2>\n<p>Wellbeing sits at the heart of the Getting it right for every child (<acronym title=\"Getting it Right for Every Child\">GIRFEC<\/acronym>) approach and reflects the need to tailor the support and help that children, young people and their parents are offered to support their wellbeing.<\/p>\n<p>A child or young person&#8217;s wellbeing is influenced by everything around them and the different experiences and needs they have at different times in their lives.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What is wellbeing?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To help make sure everyone &#8211; children, young people, parents, and the services that support them &#8211; has a common understanding of what wellbeing means, we describe it in terms of eight indicators.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-240\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/gc\/public\/thornwoodpri\/uploads\/sites\/11228\/2020\/08\/24145200\/SHANARRI-Wheel2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1040\" height=\"720\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The eight wellbeing indicators are commonly referred to by their initial letters &#8211;\u00a0<acronym title=\"safe, healthy achieving, nurtured,active,respected,responsible and included\">SHANARRI<\/acronym>.<\/p>\n<p>Information from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.scot\/publications\/getting-right-child-understanding-wellbeing-leaflet\/pages\/1\/\">https:\/\/www.gov.scot\/publications\/getting-right-child-understanding-wellbeing-leaflet\/pages\/1\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>More detailed information can be found in this government <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/gc\/public\/thornwoodpri\/uploads\/sites\/11228\/2020\/08\/24145702\/getting-right-child-understanding-wellbeing-considering-quality-children-young-peoples-lives.pdf\">GIRFEC Leaflet.<\/a><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"font-weight: 500\"><strong>GIRFEC information from Glasgow City Council&#8217;s\u00a0Health Improvement Team<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 500\">There is a new\u00a0Young people\u2019s guide to wellbeing launched.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 500\">The website is the latest resource to explain the Getting it Right for Every Child (GIRFEC) approach that underpins the new legislation and is being rolled out across local authority services.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 500\">The website provides clear information for young people on wellbeing \u2013 and what the adults in their life need to do to help them &#8211; as well as information on accessing support if needed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 500\">The idea of GIRFEC comes from the Scottish Government , but the site is by and for young people to show what is being done in schools and elsewhere to support their well being.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 500\">\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.wellbeingforyoungscots.org\/\">http:\/\/www.wellbeingforyoungscots.org\/<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Learning about GIRFEC in the Classroom<\/h2>\n<p>All of our children at Thornwood learn about how to promote and support their own wellbeing and that of others.
