What have we been learning about?
In maths and numeracy we have been working on our 7 times and measurement. We used the ipads to estimate and measure lengths and distances in our class.
In literacy we read about Scott and the his race to the South Pole. We created emotion poems and in art we chose an emotion and drew a picture that represented it.
For science we learned about the ear – how it works and how we pick up sounds.
In PE with Mrs Boyle we are learning volleyball skills. Daniel, Michael, Leah and Eva lead the warm up.

This week we have been learning about coordinates. We can find points on a grid and we can also write and read grid references. We have also been learning about the 24 hour clock and how to convert 12hour times to 24 hour times.
P4s have been learning about division and we have all been revising our tables.
In literacy we have been reading The Mystery of the Red Moon and have been working on our inference skills – we can find clues in the texts.
To celebrate Burns’ day we wrote poems in our own accents and languages about things we love. We had a great time at our school Burns’ celebration. We sang ‘I’m on my Way’ by the Proclaimers.
Learning about Robert Burns has been really fun, especially creating a haggis emoji with Mrs Hall.

P5/4 have also started a Healthy Snack campaign to launch at a whole school assembly.
What have you been learning about?
This week we have been learning about decimals. We know how to add decimals together. We have been working very hard to learn our six times table. We have started a new topic in maths all about 2D shapes. We can identify some 2D shapes in class and in the environment. We can also name some of their properties.
We worked hard at home and in class to create a spooky Halloween poem. This was part of our writing challenge.
In Science, we have been learning about food chains.
What have you enjoyed in school this week?
We had a great time at our school panto called Treasure Island.
Some of the primary 5’s took part in a new play initiative in our school. This involves the children learning to become Play Champs.
P.E has been great fun as we have been learning to develop our gymnastic skills in preparation for Gym Fest. We also took part in a rugby session with a specialist coach who taught us some of the basic skills of the sport.
What have been your successes in school this week?
Developing characterisation in writing.
A fantastic response to our writing challenge.
We have enjoyed being successful at developing our coding skills using scratch.
This week in Literacy we have been reading the text Harry Potter and have identified interesting vocabulary. In our writing we created a recount using a digital clip from a scene in Harry Potter.
In Numeracy we have been learning about symmetry and fractions. We have enjoyed creating symmetrical pictures and calculating and comparing different fractions.
Some of the children were lucky to attend a football tournament and enjoyed the competitive experience.
The P5’s had a fantastic day taking part in the Great Scottish Run. They received medals for their enthusiasm and participation.
P5/4 really enjoyed using the iPads to help them develop their skills of using fractions.
This week the pupils have been successful at learning fractions by using a messy fraction approach. This helped them to become more confident at using fractions to calculate.
The pupils enjoyed their sensory Autumn walk. They used this stimulus to help them with their writing.
