Well, another very busy week in P 1a. This week we were learning about Scotland and celebrating the life of a Robert Burns. We learned Scottish songs, made tartan by weaving over and under, we painted tartan and made kilts, we made our own Scottish flags and heard a story about the Loch Ness monster……..phew!!!
we also became scientists and tried making our own snow❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️,! Yes we really did.
our stem challenge was to build a den and work as a team. This was great fun and very successful.
In class lots of children are having a go at our numeracy star challenge and our writing table challenge.

Well a new decade has begun,let’s hope it’s lots of fun.
This week we have been learning y and z sounds. We have been practising our blending and some of us are getting confident at trying out new words. Isla loved making/ blending and writing the word flamingo.
in numeracy we are practising number stories and learning about different ways to add. So far we have tried using our fingers/ concrete materials/ part part whole and counting on with a number line.
we are learning the SHANARRI song and can talk about how we are looked after in school.
Hello everyone . We have had a busy week with lots of new learning taking place. In literacy we have learned the sounds p and n we can sing songs with actions and are getting good at forming our letters.
In numeracy we learned about the numbers 4 and 5 and we can sort and match numbers in order.
Well done to James and Kevin who have been our Starts of the Week. Both boys are able to follow class rules and set a good example of being responsible citizens.
Hello everyone, a great start for all our new primary ones.
We have had such a busy time and have made lots of new friends already. We are very good at following class rules and understand that we need to keep safe in school.
This week we learned about writing a and s as well as 0 and 1.
We went to the gym with Mrs Boyle and we had outdoor learning fun on the playground equipment on Friday.

We have been completing our Task Charts this week and children are having fun with literacy. numeracy, physical and creative tasks. every day. This is encouraging independent learning and creating responsible citizens who have to manage their time carefully. Children also get to choose which tasks they do first and when they will do them.
In numeracy we are trying to develop our mental maths and are working on the Topmarks website which has a daily challenge. This site is free and children can practise at home.
Outdoor learning has been a big hit this week and we have been outside 3 times. Lots of physical activities as well as looking after and developing our environment.

We have been having a go at writing our own news . We can write more than one sentence and we have started using joining words. We are also working on our talking and listening skills at circle time when we play spin the bottle. In numeracy we are developing our mental maths skills when adding and taking away. This term we are going to be estimating and checking using terms like… How many? How much ? .How long?…
We have also been working in the field of dreams and have planted some Indian cress. We estimated how long it would take to grow. Our answers ranged from 9 minutes to 9 weeks..Hmmmmmm….
Hi everyone another busy week.
We had a fab music lesson from Miss Hunter, short video on twitter. Children love these lessons where they are learning about rhythm and beats.
We reviewed what we had learned about Spring and created a learning journey. that is displayed in our class. We also hade a great IDL lesson about butterflies, that involved Science/life cycles Maths/symmetry art/creative literacy/ talking and listening, then we had fun outdoors trying to make them fly.
We are continuing to learn about money and developing our mental maths skills of addition and subtraction with the coins in our play flower/fruit shop.
We also have had a lovely donation of fruit from Tesco Silverburn for our Friday Fruit Tuck shop.
Hi everyone this week we have been very busy learning about Spring. We know about the names of baby animals, we can talk about Spring weather and we have been planting seeds and bulbs.
In numeracy we are learning to subtract from 10 and are also learning about money while using coins in our healthy fruit tuck shop. We have lots of people getting stars on their STAR CHALLENGE CHART.
In literacy Carissa, Tedddy, Sara and Julia are our Star Writers because they can use joining words in their writing.
What busy week. We have been learning the ‘ng’ sound and we can use our phoneme boards to make the word/write the word and say the word.
We have been counting in 10’s 5’s and 2’s and we are using our mental maths skills to add in tens.!!! yes we really are.
We had a nice surprise when we won the best class at having Healthy snacks this week , our total was 69%.
Teddy was very proud at being our Numeracy Champion, well done to him. He loves his number work.
We are starting to learn about the Season of Spring and we have lots of ideas about what we would like to find out.
We made posters about the Big Bad Wolf!!!!
We used our functional writing skills and included a picture and capital letters.
We used charcoal to draw pictures and we learned about blending/using thick and thin lines to create texture.
We looked at a real artist called Kandinsky and we created a colourful tree using concentric circles.
