The topics are as follows:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Geography:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Nigeria and Japan<\/p>\n<p><strong>History:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Rise of the Nazis<\/p>\n<p><strong>Modern studies:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Guns and Gangs<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>How can parents help their children with BGE Social Subjects<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Much of the course content in Social Subjects can be found in everyday life. There is considerable flexibility in the contexts and themes which can be studied to allow for personalisation and choice.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Component 1<\/strong>:British<\/p>\n<p>Britain, 1851\u20131951<\/p>\n<p>Development of the United Kingdom into a modern democracy and the development of the role of the state in the welfare of its citizens. Themes: authority, ideology and rights.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Component 2<\/strong>: European and the World<\/p>\n<p>Germany, 1815\u20131939<\/p>\n<p>The growth of nationalism in 19th century Germany leading to the overcoming of obstacles to unification of the nation by 1871, and the development of extreme nationalism after 1918. Themes: nationalism, authority and conflict.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Added Value Unit Assignment:<\/strong>\u00a0This is 27% of the overall marks for the course assessment.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sqa.org.uk\/sqa\/45769.html\">History &#8211; Qualifications Scotland<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Senior Phase Modern Studies (S4-S6)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>What is in the National 4\/5 course?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Section 1<\/strong>: Democracy in the Scotland and the UK<\/p>\n<p>The main institutions and organisations which make up political life and an understanding of their rights and responsibilities in contemporary democratic political society.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Section 2<\/strong>: Social Issues in the United Kingdom- Causes of crime, the impact of crime on individuals and society and the role of individuals, the police, the legal system and the state in tackling crime.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Section 3:<\/strong>\u00a0International Issues<\/p>\n<p>Learners study a major world power (USA) or a significant world issue (Underdevelopment in Africa).<\/p>\n<p>The assignment is therefore worth 20% of the overall marks for the course assessment.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What&#8217;s in the Higher Modern Studies course?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Section 1:<\/strong>\u00a0Democracy in Scotland and the United Kingdom<\/p>\n<p>Study of the democratic political system in the UK including the place of Scotland within this system.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Section 2:<\/strong>\u00a0Social issues in the United Kingdom (social inequality OR crime and the law)<\/p>\n<p>The impact of social inequality on any relevant group OR on relevant and contemporary aspects of crime, criminology and the law.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Section 3:<\/strong>\u00a0International issues (World Power or World Issues)<\/p>\n<p>The study of a world power focuses on political and socio-economic issues.
