{"id":360,"date":"2018-09-16T11:02:26","date_gmt":"2018-09-16T11:02:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/gc\/stpaulsprimarywhiteinch\/?page_id=360"},"modified":"2026-04-27T14:37:47","modified_gmt":"2026-04-27T14:37:47","slug":"ptca","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/gc\/stpaulsprimarywhiteinch\/parents\/ptca\/","title":{"rendered":"Parent Council"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"s3\">Since August 2007, all parents\/carers are automatically members of the Parent Forum for their school and they have a right to establish a Parent Council to represent them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>What are Parent Councils for?<\/strong><br \/>\nParent Councils help parents to become more actively and effectively involved in their children\u2019s learning.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What does the Parent Council do?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Support the school in its work with pupils<\/li>\n<li>Represent the view of parents and carers<\/li>\n<li>Encourage links between the school, parents, carers, pupils, and wider community<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>How above can be done? How parent\u2019s voice can make a difference?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>We can share parent\u2019s opinion and ideas with the head teacher and staff, and making sure those views are listened to and taken into account<\/li>\n<li>We can be involved in formulating the school priorities for improvement (the development of School Improvement Plan)<\/li>\n<li>We can help with revising existing school policies and introduction new policies, for example in relation to uniforms, school ethos, anti-bulling strategy, homework)<\/li>\n<li>We can organize fundraising activities to support our school and children. It can provide an opportunity for parents, pupils and staff to work together and have fun. (examples: Halloween disco, Christmas Fair, Summer Fair)<\/li>\n<li>We can try to involve as many parents as possible in school life and make sure nobody is excluded<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"s8\" style=\"text-align: center\"><span class=\"s7\"><strong>Parent Teacher Council Meetings\/PTCA<\/strong><br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"s9\">We have a very active Parent Council that represents the views of our parents. These meetings are very important and we are always looking for new members. All parents are welcome to attend Parent Council meetings and can become members at the AGM in September.
