{"id":128,"date":"2020-02-21T16:55:13","date_gmt":"2020-02-21T16:55:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/gc\/stpatricksprimaryglasgow\/?page_id=128"},"modified":"2024-02-07T13:35:58","modified_gmt":"2024-02-07T13:35:58","slug":"parent-council","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/gc\/stpatricksprimaryglasgow\/parents-carers\/parent-council\/","title":{"rendered":"Parent Council"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"s3\">Since August 2007, all parents\/carers are automatically members of the Parent Forum for their school and they have a right to establish a Parent Council to represent them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>What are Parent Councils for?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Parent Councils help parents to become more actively and effectively involved in their children\u2019s learning.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What does the Parent Council do?<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"s5\"><span class=\"s4\">\u2013\u00a0<\/span>Support the school in its work with pupils<\/div>\n<div class=\"s5\"><span class=\"s4\">\u2013\u00a0<\/span>Represent the view of parents and carers<\/div>\n<div class=\"s5\"><span class=\"s4\">\u2013\u00a0<\/span>Encourage links between the school, parents, carers, pupils, and wider community<\/div>\n<div class=\"s5\"><span class=\"s4\">\u2013<\/span> Fundraising<\/div>\n<div class=\"s5\"><span class=\"s4\">\u2013\u00a0<\/span>Involvement in the appointment of senior school staff<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p><strong>How above can be done? How parent\u2019s voice can make a difference?<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"s5\">\n<p><strong>You can email us<\/strong>: stpatsglaspc@gmail.com<\/p>\n<p><strong>Reach us on twitter: <\/strong>@StPatsGlasPC<\/p>\n<p>Or catch one of us in the playground, ask a member of staff and they\u2019ll point us out!<\/p>\n<p>We are needing new members so if you can spare a little time please get in touch.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s4\">As a parent council: <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"s5\"><span class=\"s4\">\u2013 <\/span>We can share parents&#8217; opinions and ideas with the head teacher and staff, and making sure those views are listened to and taken into account<\/div>\n<div class=\"s5\"><span class=\"s4\">\u2013\u00a0<\/span>We can be involved in formulating the school priorities for improvement (the development of School Improvement Plan)<\/div>\n<div class=\"s5\"><span class=\"s4\">\u2013\u00a0<\/span>We can help with revisiting existing school policies and support the introduction of new policies: for example,\u00a0 policies in relation to uniforms, school ethos, anti-bulling strategy, homework<\/div>\n<div class=\"s5\"><span class=\"s4\">\u2013\u00a0<\/span>We can organize fundraising activities to support our school and children. It can provide an opportunity for parents, pupils and staff to work together, have fun and raise money for school events\/trips.
