Rights are everywhere at St Francis’!

""

The Rights Respecting Schools Award is based around the principles of equality, respect, dignity, non-discrimination and participation. At St Francis’, children’s rights are part of everyday school life.

From learning in our classrooms and playing with friends to feeling safe, included and cared for, the UNCRC can be seen in so many different parts of our school day.

As we continue our journey towards Gold, we are learning to recognise how rights are experienced every day and how they help make St Francis’ a happy, welcoming and respectful place for everyone.

Developing Our Rights Language

As our understanding of the UNCRC grows, we are also learning some important words that help us talk about children’s rights.

Universal • Indivisible • Unconditional • Inherent • Inalienable

These words help us understand something very important: rights belong to every child, all rights are important and connected, and children do not have to earn their rights.

""

We are encouraging pupils to become increasingly confident using this language and recognising how their rights are respected in school, at home and in the wider world.

📚 The Right to Learn

Every day at St Francis’ is full of opportunities to learn, explore, discover and develop our talents.

""

Article 28: Right to Education

Every child has the right to an education.

""

""

Article 29: Goals of Education

Education should help children develop their talents and abilities and encourage respect for human rights and for others.

""

""

🎨 The Right to Play and Be Creative

School life is about much more than sitting at a desk!

Whether we are playing, creating, performing, exploring or enjoying time with friends, these experiences help us learn, develop and have fun together.

""

Article 31: Leisure, Play and Culture

Every child has the right to relax, play and take part in cultural and creative activities.

""

""

""

💙 The Right to Feel Safe

Every child should feel safe and protected.

At St Francis’, we work together to create an environment where pupils feel secure, cared for and able to learn and grow.

""

""

Article 19: Protection from Violence

Children have the right to be protected from violence, abuse and harm.

""

🌈 The Right to Be Included

Every child has rights, no matter who they are.

We celebrate what makes each of us unique and work to make sure everyone feels welcomed, valued and part of our St Francis’ community.

""

""

Article 2: Non-Discrimination

All children have all the rights in the UNCRC, without discrimination of any kind.

""

""

🌟 Rights Are Part of Our Everyday Life

Children’s rights can be seen in big moments and small ones.

They are there when we learn, play, create, feel safe, receive support, spend time with friends and know that we belong.

As we continue our journey towards Gold, we will keep sharing examples of how children’s rights are becoming increasingly visible and understood throughout St Francis’.
