St. Francis of Assisi Parent Council

June 2020

Dear New Primary 1 Parents and Carers,

On behalf of St. Francis of Assisi Primary School Parent Council, I would like to extend a very warm welcome. Whether you already have children at St Francis or this is new to you, we are delighted and excited to have you begin, or extend, your relationship with the school.

Here at St Francis of Assisi we are lucky to have parents and carers who are passionate about their child’s education and as a result we have an active and committed Parent Council. All parents or carers of children are welcome and encouraged to join the Parent Council, or indeed attend our meetings, which usually take place every 6-8 weeks.

Our objectives are:

To support the school in its work with pupils
Promote partnership between the school, parents, pupils, the Roman Catholic Church and the wider community
Develop and encourage activities to support the education and welfare of all pupils
Represent the views of parents on educational and other matters

Throughout the school year, the Parent Council members also organise fund-raising events, both inside and outside of the school. Some major events that you and your children will become familiar with are the annual Christmas Fair, Easter and Halloween Parties & Race Nights.

As a result of efforts by the Parent Council members, non-member volunteers and the generosity of our parents, we have in the past been able to contribute funds for residential trips, summer activities programmes, annual sponsorship of sports teams and such like.

As is now tradition for our new Primary 1 intake, your child will be provided with their first school tie free of charge – a small welcome token, gifted by the Parent Council using funds raised.

Of course, as parents of St Francis children ourselves, we are acutely aware of the very different circumstances in which your children will join our family this year. We are committed to working closely with the school to make this transition to Primary School as enjoyable as possible for all of our new family members. We look forward to seeing you around the school over the coming years.

Very Best Wishes,

Raymond Smith
