Supporting Learning at Home
Research shoes FAMILY ENGAGEMENT has a BIGGER INFLUENCE on children’s attainment than other social, economic and family background factors.
Influence on pupils achievement:
Home 60 – 80% Schools 20 – 40%
Children and young people who have at least one parent/carer engaged in their schooling:
- Achieve better exam results
- Smooth transitions
- Attend school more regularly
- Have better social skills
- Adapt better to school
- Engage in school work
- Have a network of support
- Greater sense of personal competence and are more likely to go on to further education.
In St Brendan’s Primary throughout the year we have many opportunities for you to engage in the school with your child’s learning such as:
- Parent’s / Carer’s night to report on progress
- Come Learn with Me
- Stay and play and learn
- Read Write Count
- Sharing The Learning Assemblies
- Play Along Maths
- Meet the teacher
However engagement with your child’s learning can be as simple as talking to them about their learning at home, sharing a book or completing a shared home learning task.
