Play Along Maths – Week 4 Highlights

Week 4 marked the grand finale of our family-learning series, combining coding, collaboration and multiplication practise in one energetic session.

Sphero Coding Challenge
Families programmed Sphero robots to travel “times-table trails” across a floor grid. Each child had to find their number after finding the answer from the challenge card, whilst working with a partner.  The simultaneous focus on programming the robots engaged our pupils and families with the activity as well as deepening pupils’ understanding of multiplication as repeated steps.

Reflective Circle
To close the session, everyone gathered for a “What Went Well / Even Better If” discussion. Common successes were enjoyment with the games and spending time out of class with other pupils and family members learning together.

Celebrating the Journey
Across four weeks, families have explored digital tools, hands-on games and collaborative quizzes. Seesaw and Book Creator reflections captured steady growth in mathematical language and confidence, and parents now feel equipped to guide practise at home.

Next Steps

A short online form will gather final feedback to shape next year’s programme.

Thank you to every pupil & parent for making Play Along Maths such a success. Your enthusiasm has truly added up!

Play Along Maths – Week 3 Highlights

Week 3 blended digital learning with numeracy focused play with new activities, giving families another chance to see numeracy in action.

Sumdog Skill-Boost
We kicked off with a 15-minute “Sumdog Starter.” Pupils logged in alongside parents, who learned about how we track accuracy, speed using Sumdog data. Cheers rang out as coins were awarded and pupils celebrated climbing the leaderboards.

New Play-Along Packs
After the digital warm-up, children browsed a fresh selection of Play Along packs—this rotation features money-matching games and multiplication challenges. Families discussed which pack would stretch (but not frustrate) current skills, then signed it out for the coming week.

Looking Ahead
With brand-new Play Along activities in their bags, families are ready for another week of playful maths practise. We look forward to welcoming you back on May 29th. (Due to the holidays next week)

Play Along Maths – Week 2 Highlights

Week 2 built on our vibrant start with even more family engagement and digital activities.

Fresh Play Packs
Children and parents began by exploring a new selection of Play Along packs. Each family discussed which game would best stretch their numeracy skills at home, then signed the chosen pack out for next week’s practice.

Blooket Maths Quiz
Next, families joined forces for a fast-paced Blooket quiz projected on the big screen. Pupils raced to answer mental-maths questions while parents cheered (and occasionally phoned a young friend for help!). The friendly competition reinforced multiplication —all delivered through laughter and team spirit.

Seesaw Reflections
Pupils used their iPads to post a short Seesaw response:

  • explaining their favourite play along moment,
  • Their feelings about what they enjoyed and what they would change.
These reflections revealed positive engagement with our participating families and that the Play Along packs are being enjoyed by all at home.

Looking Ahead
With new packs in hand and clear feedback shared on Seesaw, families are set for another week of playful maths learning. We can’t wait to see next week’s thoughts and feelings to hear which strategies worked best at home!

Play Along Maths – Week 1 Summary

Last week, we launched our first Play Along Maths session, welcoming P4 pupils and their families into the school for a hands-on learning experience. Mrs MacLean and Mr Burns ran through an overview of the programme for parents, displayed the play along packs, and then welcomed the pupils to the hall to try out some of the activities for themselves.

Children explored matching, patterns, and counting through playful games, while parents learned how to support maths at home in fun, practical ways. Laughter filled the room as families tried out the activities together and discovered how everyday play can build confidence with numbers. Everyone left with a home-play pack to continue the learning – and the fun – at home!

We will welcome families back into the school  on Thursday 8th May, 2.15-3pm, to swap their Play Along Game Pack and to participate in some fun digital Maths games

Welcome to Play Along Maths!

Welcome to our online space dedicated to the Play Along Maths programme—a series of hands-on numeracy sessions designed especially for our pupils and families!

Every Thursday we’ll host a session where families play, learn, and reflect together. These begin May 1st and conclude on May 29th.

(Except May 22nd , as this is an Inservice Day),

Each home learning activity box includes a QR code linking to a short, clear instruction video. Accessible anytime, anywhere! These activities will serve as you child’s maths homework for the 4 weeks they participate in the programme.

You can also complete our quick surveys to share your thoughts before and after the Play along maths sessions.

Explore our blog to discover more about the upcoming sessions, view highlights, and learn how to maximise your family’s maths fun at home.

Thank you!
