Sports Day πŸƒπŸ»β€β™‚οΈπŸƒπŸ½β€β™€οΈ

Tuesday was Sports Day and itΒ was so much fun.Β

It was hard to try and beat everyone else and the skipping with the hula hoop was hard too. – Dilya

Everyone was so competitive and wanted to win.

I ran as fast as I could because I though Emaan was going to beat me but I won in the end. #WINNER – Amina.

It took me ages to get across the egg and spoon race and the egg fell lots of times.Β  I want to be better at this next year. – Manahil.

I liked trying the different come and try stations like the javelin and touch rugby. – Rayan.

My favourite part of Sports Day was when Mrs Crosbie ran with Isaac’s wheelchair and took part in the sprint race. – Fareed.

Eco-week β™»οΈπŸ’š

We learned lots about sustainability during eco-week this week.

First, we learned about water pollution.Β  Miss McCue asked Manahil to go outside and put mud in a cup.Β  Then, Laiba filled the two cups up with water.Β  We could see that one was clean and one was contaminated.Β  This made it obvious for us that the clean water was better and safe to drink.

Miss McCue drank the dirty water to show us that nothing will happen because it’s only mud. #LOL #YUCKY

Next, we learned about marine pollution.Β  Marine pollution is when the rubbish we throw away on land goes into the water and harms marine life.Β  More than 5 trillion pieces of plastic are found in our oceans right now.Β  We created posters for this and have entered them into Miss Brook’s competition.

Finally, we collated the results from our litter pick and created a bar graph of these results.

The results were shocking.Β  In total, we collected 811 pieces of litter in our school grounds in an hour.

We had to make sure our bar graphs were accurate and we used the correct scale.Β  We also had to include labels.

Buddying with the new Primary 1 πŸ€—πŸ€—

We are the new buddies for next year and yesterday we got to meet the new Primary 1s.

We had to be very patient with them because they are so young and we had to help them find new friends.Β

Some of the new Primary 1s were very nervous and looked like they could cry but we were so kind to them and were there to make them feel better.

It was really hard to make some of them talk at first but we tried really hard to make them like us and they began to play with us more.

Fundraising for Human Appeal

We have organised a different fundraiser every week of Ramadan to raise money for the Human Appeal.Β

We advertised the stalls and this made them really popular which meant we’ve raised hundreds of pounds.

We painted faces …

Did mehndi. #ARTISTIC

Β

Organised a non uniform day with the theme of bright colours to celebrate Ramadan.Β

Ran a bake sale. #YUM

Mary’s Meals Backpack Project

We collectedΒ backpacks from the pupils in our school for Mary’s Meals.Β  We organised them in our classroom by dividing the items into sections.

We then walked to the Mary’s Meals office to deliver the backpacks.Β  We met Max there and he gave us a mini tour of the office.

Max showed us 16 clocks which tell the time from countries that Mary’s Meals feed in.Β  He also showed us the Mary’s Meals prayer and he showed us a container full of rice which shows how many children Mary’s Meals feed.Β  They feed, 1, 257, 278 children across the world.

Then, we played in the park as a treat on our way back to school.

❀️❀️ All you need is love ❀️❀️

The theme of this week is love.
We discussed what love means to us.

Here are some of the things we said:

Haidar: love is love.
Hafsa: love is helping your teacher, your friends and everyone around you.
Mimi: love is motivating people when they are sad.
Manahil: love is just being nice to everyone.
Maidah: love is smiling at people.
Soha: love is being together.
Laiba: love is friendship.

We then added what we love about each other into our love jar.

After that, we went round our circle and each chose a random loveheart and read it out.Β  Some people got their own.Β  “It made me feel like I’m surrounded by love” – Manahil.

Β

Just as we were feeling the love, we got a special visitor.Β  Mrs Brightman came in with her beautiful baby daughter, Audrey.

Primary 6 is full of love.
