This week, a friendly dragon left us a mysterious letter. He told us that children are not reading enough fairy tales and, because of this, Fairyland is disappearing. He needed our help – so we spent a whole week learning about fairy tales!
This dragon left a magical, glittery footprint in our class!
  Â
We rewrote the story of Jack and the Beanstalk to help the dragon! Our writing was amazing and Miss Kinloch was so proud. Hooriah wrote a letter to the giant saying that it wasn’t her who stole his gold!!
Haadiya and Abdul developed fine motor skills by making a play dough path for Jack to follow! Â
We made magic beans from playdough. We counted the beans, made patterns and even weighed the beans to check how heavy they were! Â Â Â
We decided to make our own Beanstalk in class for Jack. Kalsoom and Haadiya worked out that we had to use a box to steady the beanstalk. Maryam thought that we could keep play dough in the bottom to weigh the box down. Raghad stood on a chair to paint the top of the Beanstalk. Some children went outside with Miss Bull to collect real leaves for our Beanstalk. Lily was developing her cutting skills making pretend leaves for the Beanstalk.  Ali decided to measure the Beanstalk to see how tall it was – it was 2m 20cm!!
We have had such a lovely week using fairy tales as a context for learning. We have learned about measure, weight, letter writing, developed fine motor skills, worked together as a team,. evaluated our work and most importantly HAD LOADS OF FUN!!!
Have a lovely weekend,
Miss Kinloch and P1/2 xx
