Learning in Class 2 this week

We have been working hard yet again in Class 2 this week.

Today was the final date for our collection of clothes and suitcases for the homeless. Thank you so much to those of you that made donations. We have been busy sorting all the clothes and bags before taking them to Simon Community Scotland next week for the homeless.

In circle time we have been working on friendship. We thought about what makes a good friend and sorted some sentences into what a good friend does and does not do.

Some of our other learning this week has included –

  • working on different spellings for the oa phonic
  • making notes on our characters and picking settings for our imaginative stories
  • learning about the religion of Christianity
  • making predictions for our science experiment about force
  • playing dodge ball in P.E
  • using charcoal to add to our chalk background in our African art pictures

Our learning this week

Another busy week in Class 2….

Kit was a superstar this week with his fantastic maths work. He worked totalling a variety of coins independently using his adding skills. He was given the superstar lanyard to wear for the day. Well done Kit!

During topic time this week we have been learning more about different jobs and the uniforms, equipment and skills you may need. We played a hot seating game where we had a job given to us on a card and sat in the hot seat. the rest of the class asked us questions about our job to try and guess what it was. We all loved this game!

This week we made a start on sorting our donations that have been coming in for Simon Community Scotland. Thank you to everyone who has given donations so far. We are still collecting all next week and in particular would like some more suitcases or bags if you have any. Thank you for your support.

We have also been busy  –

  • using VCOP in our writing
  • answering questions about our reading books
  • playing some outdoor games in the sun
  • learning about force in science
  • thinking about the people we love
  • using pyramid writing to learn our spelling words

Meeting beautiful baby Audrey!

We had a very special little visitor today in Class 2 🙂

Mrs Brightman, who we have worked a lot with over the past few years (in Primary 5 last year and again this year in Primary 6/7) came to school today with her beautiful baby girl Audrey.

She is still too little for us to hold on our own but she held our fingers and got some photos. It was great meeting Audrey and seeing Mrs Brightman again, we hope they will visit us again soon 🙂

Our learning in Class 2 last week

Lots happened last week, even though we only had 4 days to fit all our learning in!

In mental maths we have been practicing counting in 5s, 2s and 10s, using the hundred square to help us learn the pattern and playing different games to practice. We have been playing some games counting 2ps, 5ps ad 10ps this week s we have started learning about money. Kayden from Class 1 has been joining us for maths for the last few weeks and is doing a great job learning these new patterns 🙂

We have been learning about the value of coins, ordering them from smallest to largest and using a variety of coins to pay for items using our adding skills.

In topic we completed our digital posters to advertise for donations of old clothes and suitcases and recorded a radio advert with Mr McCormack who showed us how to cut and edit a radio clip.

For P.E we were playing rounders and cricket with P6/7 in the sunshine, taking turns bowling, batting and fielding.

In writing we have started work on some imaginative writing. We learned about character, setting and plot and started creating a character profile thinking about the characters we are going to have in our story.

We have also been learning about  –

  • different spellings of the ie sound
  • various comprehension tasks for our reading book
  • creating African art pictures
  • different types of changes and how we handle these changes
  • phases of the moon in science

Help the Homeless project

As part of topic learning about Social Enterprise we have been working with some different organisations which help the homeless including The Big Issue ( a social enterprise) and Simon Community Scotland (a charity).

We are doing a collection of clothes and suitcases for Simon Community Scotland who will then distribute these things to homeless people.

The children have been working hard to create these digital posters with all the information you will need about the types of items we need and the due date for donations. We hope you can help!

Digital Learning Week 2018

This week is digital learning week.

In Class 2 we have been learning about creating a digital poster on Microsoft Word. We have been learning about things a poster needs such as bright colours to attract attention, easy to read text and pictures.

This has required us to learn word processing skills – lots of us can type on tablets and I-pads but find typing on a keyboard trickier! We have also learned how to insert pictures from Clip Art and search for our own pictures on Google to insert into our poster.

We have been working on creating a digital poster to help advertise our fundraising drive to help the homeless in aid of Simon Community Scotland. We will share these with you when we finish them next week!

Working in pairs to type the information we need on our poster

Searching pictures on Clip Art and inserting them into our poster, resizing them and moving them around

Doing a Google search for pictures we can’t get on Clip Art

Digital Learning Week Competition #success

Our class were challenged to make a blog post of us taking screenshots of a Google search. We learned how to search on Google while making a digital poster. Here are the pictures of our work –

Huzaifa taking a screen shot of the search using the print screen button
