Today the choir had a go in the studio recording a version of Purple Rain by Prince.
The recording is to be used as a backing track for SQA exam candidates on guitar.
The choir had a ball singing! Thanks to Mr Milne for recording them!
On the 15th June 2016 Pete Vilk and Atzi Muramatzu from the Scottish Chamber Orchestra came to school to lead music making workshops with a world music flavour!
The pair worked with 60 pupils from S2-S6 at 3 separate workshops. Pupils took part in rhythmic warm ups, sang Cuban, Brazilian and Cameroonian folk songs and improvised their own music.
Pupils did a really good job of getting involved and learned a lot!
The Scottish Chamber Orchestra delivered these workshops to advertise their summer school SCO VIBE from Thursday 14th to Saturday 16th July at St Roch’s Secondary School. Please see details below if interested. The whole course is FREE!

On the 7th June a group of 40 pupils and teachers went to see the BBC Symphony Orchestra perform 10 Pieces at the City Halls, Glasgow.
Pieces included, Mambo from West Side Story, Habanera and Toreador Song from Carmen, Bach’s Toccata and Fugue, Vaughan Williams’ The Lark Ascending and Gabriel Prokofiev’s Concerto for Turntables and Orchestra. We also sang the chorus from Verdi Dies Irae which was recorded and remixed by DJ Mr Switch.
The pupils represented the school beautifully and were a real credit to themselves.
It was lovely to see former Springburn Academy pupil Michael Clark playing percussion in the orchestra!
