Sports Leadership Award \u2013 Ski Trip Pathway (SCQF Level 5)<\/h2>\n

We are delighted to offer <\/span>returning pupils<\/strong> the opportunity to work towards a <\/span>Sports Leadership Award at SCQF Level 5<\/strong> alongside our <\/span>Italy Ski Trip to Bardonecchia<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

This award recognises pupils who take on additional responsibility<\/strong>, support others, and demonstrate leadership through sport and physical activity. It provides a clear progression route for pupils who have previously attended the ski trip and are ready to step into a more active leadership role.<\/p>\n

\n

What is the SCQF Level 5 Sports Leadership Award?<\/h2>\n

The SCQF Level 5 Sports Leadership Award<\/strong> is a nationally recognised qualification designed for pupils aged 15\u201316<\/strong>. It focuses on developing:<\/p>\n

    \n
  • confidence and communication skills<\/li>\n
  • leadership and teamwork<\/li>\n
  • organisation and responsibility<\/li>\n
  • problem-solving and adaptability<\/li>\n
  • the ability to plan, lead and review physical activities<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    The award is practical and evidence-based<\/strong> \u2013 there are no written exams. Pupils achieve the qualification by planning, leading and evaluating real leadership activities.<\/p>\n

    Who is this for?<\/h2>\n

    This pathway is open to:<\/p>\n

      \n
    • pupils who have already attended the ski trip previously<\/strong><\/li>\n
    • pupils who will be 15\u201316 years old<\/strong> at the time of the trip<\/li>\n
    • pupils who wish to take on additional responsibility<\/strong> and act as positive role models<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      Places are limited and pupils may be asked to complete a short application to ensure they are ready for the leadership role.<\/p>\n

      \n

      What does Sports Leadership look like on the ski trip?<\/h2>\n

      Sports Leaders are not instructors<\/strong> and are not responsible for technical skiing or safety decisions. Instead, they act as peer leaders<\/strong>, supporting staff and younger pupils.<\/p>\n

      Leadership opportunities include:<\/p>\n

      Before the trip<\/h3>\n
        \n
      • supporting information sessions and briefings for first-time skiers<\/li>\n
      • helping deliver kit talks and preparation guidance<\/li>\n
      • leading simple warm-ups or confidence-building activities<\/li>\n
      • planning group activities for the journey and evenings<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        During the trip<\/h3>\n
          \n
        • supporting beginner and nervous skiers<\/li>\n
        • helping organise transitions (hotel, slopes, meals)<\/li>\n
        • leading warm-ups and cool-downs<\/li>\n
        • acting as positive role models for behaviour and attitude<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

          Evening and social leadership<\/h3>\n

          Organising and leading activities such as:<\/p>\n

            \n
          • quizzes and team challenges<\/li>\n
          • low-energy games and icebreakers<\/li>\n
          • wellbeing, stretching or recovery activities<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

            Travel leadership<\/h3>\n
              \n
            • planning and leading appropriate games and activities on the bus journey<\/li>\n
            • helping maintain positive behaviour and group morale during travel<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

              All activities are planned in advance and approved by staff.<\/p>\n

              \n

              How is the award assessed?<\/h2>\n

              Pupils will gather evidence across the year, including:<\/p>\n

                \n
              • activity planning sheets<\/li>\n
              • leadership logs and reflections<\/li>\n
              • staff observation records<\/li>\n
              • feedback from pupils and peers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

                Assessment is ongoing and supportive, focusing on growth, responsibility and leadership<\/strong>, rather than performance or ability.<\/p>\n

                \n

                When does this take place?<\/h2>\n

                Leadership development takes place between February and December<\/strong>, leading up to and including the ski trip.<\/p>\n

                Pupils will:<\/p>\n

                  \n
                • attend leadership briefings<\/li>\n
                • help plan activities across the year<\/li>\n
                • take on formal leadership roles during the trip<\/li>\n
                • complete a final reflection after returning<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
                  \n

                  Why take part?<\/h2>\n

                  By completing the Sports Leadership Award, pupils will:<\/p>\n

                    \n
                  • gain a nationally recognised qualification<\/strong><\/li>\n
                  • develop valuable life and employability skills<\/li>\n
                  • contribute positively to the ski trip experience for others<\/li>\n
                  • demonstrate commitment, responsibility and maturity<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

                    This pathway rewards experience and progression while enhancing the overall quality of the trip.<\/p>\n
