Below are some terms, explanations and links to information for parents and carers on what to look out for on the World Wide Web.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><b>Internet Safety<\/b>\u200b<\/p>\n<p>\u200bInternet Safety\u00a0is the\u00a0knowledge of maximizing the\u00a0user&#8217;s personal\u00a0safety\u00a0and\u00a0security risks on private\u00a0information and property\u00a0associated with using\u00a0the\u00a0internet\u200b.<\/p>\n<p>resources:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/gc\/public\/shawlandsprimaryschool\/uploads\/sites\/9836\/2019\/01\/SID2019-Parents-and-Carers-Internet-Safety-Plan.pdf\">Internet Safety Plan<\/a><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><b>Cyber Resilience<\/b>\u200b<\/p>\n<p>\u200bCyber resilience is for individuals or organisations to be able\u00a0to prepare for, withstand,\u00a0rapidly recover and learn from\u00a0deliberate attacks or\u00a0accidental events in the online\u00a0world .<\/p>\n<p>it also means developing\u00a0understanding of issues like\u200b<\/p>\n<ul style=\"font-weight: 400\">\n<li>Passwords\u200b<\/li>\n<li>How we communicate\u200b<\/li>\n<li>Phishing\u200b<\/li>\n<li>Identity theft\u200b<\/li>\n<li>Digital Footprint\u200b<\/li>\n<li>Digital Citizenship\u200b<\/li>\n<li>Copyright\u200b<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong><span class=\"TextRun SCXP56568895\" lang=\"EN-GB\" xml:lang=\"EN-GB\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXP56568895\">As a parent or carer what are the simplest skills you can teach your child to be cyber resilient?<\/span><\/span><span class=\"EOP SCXP56568895\">\u200b<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul style=\"font-weight: 400\">\n<li><b>Make sure your passwords are complex.<\/b>\u00a0Avoid dictionary words, use a mixture of\u00a0upper\u00a0and lower case\u00a0letters, special characters and numbers.\u200b<\/li>\n<li><b>Make sure your passwords are long.<\/b>\u00a0A password made of 8 random\u00a0upper case\u00a0letters\u00a0(with no dictionary words) can be hacked in a matter of days. But if you add just 2 extra\u00a0characters, to make it 10 characters long, it will be 676 times harder to crack, taking a\u00a0computer programme years instead of days to solve.\u200b Check your password strength <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/howsecureismypassword.net\u200b\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><b>Avoid re-using the same password for different accounts or devices.\u00a0<\/b>\u200b<\/li>\n<li><b>Always install updates.<\/b>\u00a0You should always try to install updates as soon as they are\u00a0available for any of your devices, apps or programmes.\u200b<\/li>\n<li><b>Don\u2019t send money or give out personal information in response to an unexpected\u00a0<\/b><b>request.\u00a0<\/b>\u200b<\/li>\n<li><b>Be careful when using public Wi-Fi and shared computers.<\/b>\u00a0Avoid connecting to\u00a0unsecured public Wi-Fi networks. If you do use Wi-Fi on a shared network, avoid logging\u00a0into emails\/online banking etc.\u200b<\/li>\n<li><b>If you think that you have been a victim of hacking or fraud, report it<\/b>.\u00a0Contact Action\u00a0Fraud <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.actionfraud.police.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a><\/strong>, the UK\u2019s national reporting centre for fraud and\u00a0cyber security.
