Children who are due to start primary school in August should enrol online in the previous November. Notices of the dates and times of registration are displayed in the national press, in the school itself, in the local Post Office and in the Nursery Schools in the area. During the summer term, children and parents/carers will visit the school. The children meet their new classmates and become familiar with their classroom, while the adults will find out more about their child settling in/who helps them, the wider community and a little bit about the curriculum. All Primary 1 pupils are allocated a Primary 6 ‘buddy’ who helps in the initial settling into school period.
Early in Term 1 of P1, parents and carers will be invited to a ‘Meet the Teacher’ session to hear about how the children learn and play in school.
