Pupils from Bun-sgoil Ghaidhlig Ghlaschu held a Sponsored Musathon to raise money for a new piano. 35 pupils played 45 minutes of continuous music – math dha-rìribh!

16 pupils from S1-S4 attended a full day of workshops at the BBC Studios at Pacific Quay, as part of the BBC Music at the Quay festival.
The day started off with a Radio Production workshop, where our pupils became Presenters, Producers and Engineers. The Presenters got to work writing a script, while the Producers researched the songs and the Engineers learned how to record the presenters, insert stings and idents, and mix the songs using Traktor.

We will be holding a Sponsored Musathon to raise money for a new piano. We are hoping to have two full days of non-stop music, played by as many of our young people as possible!
Pupils who wish to be involved will be asked to perform a piece/pieces of music on the instrument(s) of their choice or to sing a Gaelic song. All pupils are encouraged to participate so long as they can perform a piece from start to finish. Pupils can perform individually or in small groups.
The Bunsgoil Musathon will be held on Wednesday 10th June and the Ardsgoil Musathon will be held between 11.30am and 3pm on Monday 22nd June.
Ceòl Is Dannsa celebrates the best in traditional, contemporary and experimental music and dance featuring internationally acclaimed artists and performers alongside emerging talents from Glasgow’s Gaelic School.

8pm: Pupils from Glasgow’s Gaelic School take the stage to perform a set of traditionally inspired compositions and Gaelic song.
These young performers will demonstrate the wide range of talents being nurtured and developed in the school’s department of music.
9 – 9.30pm: Break
9.30 – 10.30pm: Catriona McKay, Chris Stout and Alistair MacDonald join forces to create a groundbreaking performance featuring traditional, contemporary and experimental forms of music, song, visual arts and choreography.
The Herald’s Rob Adams says “Harper Catriona McKay is a free spirit who can tackle wholly improvised works and has the ability to take traditional music out to the edge without sacrificing traditional forms and techniques…”
Shetland fiddle legend Chris Stout records and tours extensively with Catriona.
Alistair MacDonald, composer, performer and lecturer at Glasgow’s Conservatoire, works with performers, artists and choreographers from different media and backgrounds, to create work for international performance, broadcast and installations.
For this event the trio will collaborate with visual artist Dominic Snyder and dancer / choreographer Pennie Chivas a.k.a ‘The Snyver Project” who investigate the connections between dance, drawing, sculpture and live performance.
The trio will also invite two alumni from the Gaelic School, Shauna Currie and Joseph McCluskey, to collaborate in an astonishing reworking of traditional Gaelic song.
Children under 14 welcome until 10pm.

Sgoil Ghàidhlig Ghlaschu was visited by 31 pupils and staff from Coláiste Feirste, the only Irish-medium secondary school in Belfast. In a few weeks, a group of 15 S4 pupils will travel to Belfast to return the visit.
The Irish pupils gave a presentation to our fourth years about being proud of the language, marching to protect it and fight for legal rights. They then got a taste of shinty, Highland Dancing, Gaelic song and clàrsach playing from our pupils.
The pupils and staff got to know each other over dinner at McPhabbs and a ceilidh in the school hall. Our newly formed ceilidh band “Craicte Leis” provided the music at the ceilidh, and a camera-man from BBC Alba popped in to record some of their rehearsal.
