Glasgow Music Festival 2015 Results

2015 was a very successful year for Sgoil Ghàidhlig Ghlaschu at the Glasgow Music Festival. Pupils participated in an array of classes from solo to group and orchestral performances. This was the first year our orchestras participated in these classes and we were up against very accomplished and experienced schools such as Douglas Academy (school of excellence in music) and one of East Renfrewshire’s flag-ship schools, Williamwood. Both of these schools had their senior orchestras performing which involved pupils from S3 – S6. The average age of the pupils in ‘Prìomh Orcastra’ and ‘Orcastra nan Teud’ is 13. Our pupils performed at a very high level and we are extremely proud of what they have achieved.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank their instrumental instructors:

Gwen Yorke (clàrsach), Djordje Gajic (accordion), Ruth Rowlands (cello) and in particular, Sharon Haslam (violin), who does a tremendous amount of work above and beyond what we could ever expect of her.

We would also like to thank Donna MacKenzie, Stuart MacKenzie and Fiona Hesling for both their administrative support throughout the year and their ‘hands on’ support during rehearsals and during the festival itself. Without their efforts our pupils would not be able to participate in this excellent Music Festival.

Quest for Talent 2014

Congratulations to ‘Orcastra SGG’ and ‘Na Deep Fried Mars Bars’ who not only won the ‘Traditional Scottish Music’ section of Quest for Talent but came away as the ‘Overall Winners’ too.

‘Orcastra SGG’ has only been together since August last year and is made up of pupils from both the bun-sgoil and àrd-sgoil. Na Deep Fried Mars bars have had a very successful period since their gold-medal performance at the National Mod having also come 2nd at the Glasgow Music Festival.

A very big ‘thank you’ to all the pupils, who are just fantastic! A big thank you too, to the parents but especially to Donna MacKenzie and Fiona Hesling for their untiring efforts – they are much appreciated.
