Around 70 pupils performed in the Inverclyde Music Festival at the end of January and beginning of February. Despite Storms Gertrude and Henry, we made it to Greenock for 32 separate classes, and we would like to thank the organisers for being so accommodating when we had weather-related transport issues! Thanks also to Ms McEachen and Fiona from the Subgroup for taking the mammoth task of working out how to get pupils to and from the festival, and to Mr Duddy, Ms McEachen, Ms Campbell and Mrs Pearce for transporting pupils.
Lots of pupils have said that they really enjoyed performing in the classes as it gave them something to work towards, improved their practise and gave them useful feedback for their upcoming SQA exams. ‘S math a rinn sibh!
Our pupils have had another successful year at the Royal National Mod.
Saturday saw pupils compete in fiddle, piano, pipes and accordion, with Dòmhnall (BS6) placing 3rd in the U13 Fiddle class (on cello!) and Abigail (AS2) placing 2nd in the U13 Piano class.
Next up was the U13 Fiddle Group Am Brag Mòr, who placed 1st in their class with a fantastic score of 95.
We had two groups competing in the U19 Fiddle Group class, Craicte Leis and Gleus. There was tough competition with six groups competing in the class, but Gleus placed 3rd and Craicte Leis placed 2nd by just one point.
There are many more SGG pupils competing in the coming days – watch this space!
