On one hand we are looking to develop the aspirations of our children, staff and community to make a better school, community and world, as well as improve personally. It is also a play on words as it describes the key historical landmark and focal point of our community: a spire. The Roystonhill Spire sits at the top of Roystonhill (Previously Garngadhill), as a part of the Townhead-Blochairn Church. It was built in 1866 but sadly, only the historic Spire remains today. The church’s interior was designed by Daniel Cottier (whose work was admired internationally, including by Vincent Van Gogh who visited his work in London) who later worked with Charles Rennie Mackintosh and Alexander ‘Greek’ Thomson as a leading Scottish artist. On the site of the former church is now the Roystonhill Community Hub, which the school works closely with as one of our community partners. The spire is still visible all-around Glasgow (as far as East Kilbride, The Cathkin Braes & Glasgow Airport) and at one time was one of the highest points in the city at 132m above sea level (The Spire height is 58m high on top of Royston hill which is 74m above sea level).

Our Aims –

We ASPIRE to be a better school.

We ASPIRE to be a better community.

We ASPIRE to be a better world.

Our ASPIRE Values – What do they look like in our school?

All together

Responsible Citizens

UNCRC – Article 3, 15

· Staff, Children, Parents/Carers & Community Partners work together under a shared set of values for the benefit of the school, local community and wider world.

· Children get the opportunity to work out with their ‘class’, for example working with other age groups in the school (P7 buddying or House meetings/sports days etc.)

· Everyone in our community should show kindness to each other.

Sharing ideas

Effective Contributors & Confident Individuals

UNCRC Article 12, 13

· Stakeholders in our school will be consulted before making changes in the school which will impact on them.

· Collaborative skills are taught to children and children are given opportunities to work collaboratively regularly in school.

· We facilitate opportunities to make a difference in the school through participation in houses and committees.

Promoting Success

Successful Learners

UNCRC Article 28

· We have a whole-school house system which encourages high expectations of effort to be shared across the school, classes and groups.

· Weekly assemblies celebrate stars and workers of the week as well as any wider achievements.
