The students are learning to identify lines of symmetry in 2D shapes and are practicing drawing the &#8220;mirror image&#8221; of complex patterns. This requires them to count grid squares accurately to ensure the distance from the line of symmetry is identical on both sides.<\/p>\n<h3 data-path-to-node=\"3\">Literacy: Grammar and Writing<\/h3>\n<ul data-path-to-node=\"4\">\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"4,0,0\"><b data-path-to-node=\"4,0,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">Suffixes:<\/b> Our focus is on the suffix <b data-path-to-node=\"4,0,0\" data-index-in-node=\"37\">-ful<\/b>. We are discussing how this suffix indicates that something is &#8220;full of&#8221; or &#8220;characterised by&#8221; the root word.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"4,1,0\"><b data-path-to-node=\"4,1,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">Persuasive Writing:<\/b> We are beginning our unit on persuasive techniques. The goal is to move beyond simple opinion statements and into structured argument. We are specifically looking at:<\/p>\n<ul data-path-to-node=\"4,1,1\">\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"4,1,1,0,0\"><b data-path-to-node=\"4,1,1,0,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">Emotive Language:<\/b> Using words that trigger a strong reaction<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"4,1,1,1,0\"><b data-path-to-node=\"4,1,1,1,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">The Rule of Three:<\/b> Grouping three adjectives or phrases to make a point more memorable.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"4,1,1,2,0\"><b data-path-to-node=\"4,1,1,2,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">Rhetorical Questions:<\/b> Engaging the reader by asking questions that don&#8217;t necessarily require an answer.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 data-path-to-node=\"5\">Topic: The Commonwealth Fact Files<\/h3>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"6\">Each student has been assigned a member nation of the Commonwealth. The current task is to\u00a0 research and create\u00a0 a structured fact file.
