What a fantastic last week in p2/1 to end term 2.
We enjoyed lots of fun Christmas activites such as our Christmas party where we had a very special and important visitor 🎅🏽❤️

We were also very lucky to have a surprise treat from Miss Davidson today. We couldn’t contain our excitement when the ice cream van arrived 🍦

I am so proud of p2/1 and all their achievements this year. I hope everyone has a very special Merry Christmas when it comes.  I am excited for the fabulous learning to come in 2026 for our amazing pupils ✨⭐️💫

What a wonderful week it has been! Primary 1 truly shone as they took to the stage for their two nativity performances of Born in a Barn. Their confidence, enthusiasm and infectious energy filled the room from start to finish.

There were plenty of laughs and even a few happy tears from proud parents, families and teachers as the children delivered their lines with charm and sang and danced their hearts out. As always, they reminded us just how amazing they truly are.

We also enjoyed a lovely movie afternoon as a special treat for our hard work during Nativity.

With such a joyful week behind us, the countdown is now officially on to our festive break!

In the playroom, we helped the Jolly Postman by working out the quickest route for him to deliver his letters. We also set up our own post office, where we sorted and delivered mail just like real postal workers.
Our creativity was put to great use too, as we designed and built different types of transport to help Santa deliver presents to children across the globe.

In literacy, we loved describing our cheeky Christmas elf. The children did a brilliant job sounding out their words independently. We are almost finished learning our initial sounds and this week consolidated our tricky words.

In maths, we have been learning to tell the time on an analogue clock. We are becoming experts at recognising o’clock times and sequencing days of the week.

Our Nativity rehearsals have been going wonderfully, and Primary 2/1 are so excited to perform for a real audience next week. We are incredibly proud of their enthusiasm and hard work.

What a magical, festive week it has been! 🌟🎄

This week we’ve been busy rehearsing for our very own nativity performance and we also had the wonderful opportunity to see The Little Mermaid at the King’s Theatre. The children loved it. We enjoyed singing along, clapping, cheering, and soaking up every magical moment. Travelling by bus with friends added to the adventure, filling the journey with laughter and excited chatter.

Our learning didn’t stop there. We were delighted to welcome Catriona from PATHS, who taught a fantastic lesson to support our calming strategy, “Doing the Turtle.” The children are becoming very confident in recognising when it’s time to pause, take a breath, and make calm choices.

In literacy, we continue to practise our sounds and common words. We have been working on becoming word detectives to read and write familiar words. We also enjoyed some learning experiences based on The Jolly Postman. Your support at home makes a huge difference, thank you! Please continue encouraging your child to read, spell, and use their words with confidence.

In the playroom, we have been learning all about the Post Office. The children have been exploring how it works by posting parcels, weighing them, and sorting them just like real postal workers. They have also loved building vehicles to help deliver parcels around the community, using their imagination and problem-solving skills to bring their ideas to life.

Finally, please keep an eye out for upcoming requests for costume items for the nativity. The excitement is building, and we can’t wait to share our performance with you soon!

This week in P2/1 we have been busy learning lots of new skills!
We took a wonderful trip to the library where we enjoyed choosing books and learned about fiction and non-fiction. We can’t wait for our next visit.

In Literacy, we read Jack and the Beanstalk and used adjectives to describe the giant. We are becoming confident at building sentences independently.

In Numeracy, we focused on numbers before and after a given number and are working on counting forwards and backwards.

This was our last week of learning about the Enchanted Forest in the playroom, and we had great fun exploring small-world play where we used our imagination to create our own stories. The children also designed and built magical forest settings using natural materials, loose parts, and construction resources. Through this, they explored problem-solving, planning, and working cooperatively with others.

Our nativity songs are sounded amazing and next week we will take to the stage to rehearse so please ensure you are practising your lines at home!

We have had a highly productive week of learning in P2/1.

In Literacy, pupils have been focusing on saying, blending, reading, and writing CVC words using their knowledge of initial sounds. This week, we introduced the sounds ‘b’ and ‘u’, and learners can now confidently identify words beginning with each. Pupils are also developing greater confidence in recognising tricky words in their reading books and applying decoding strategies to tackle unfamiliar vocabulary.

Within the playroom, our new context for learning is the Enchanted Forest, where children have been engaging with a variety of fairy-tale stories. We took part in a design and build challenge inspired by The Three Little Pigs. They constructed model houses and then tested their structures to evaluate their strength and suitability for protecting against the Big Bad Wolf.

In Numeracy, the class has been developing their understanding of subtraction, recognising that taking away results in a smaller total. Pupils also created symmetrical artwork, demonstrating their growing understanding of symmetry.

Our Nativity rehearsals are now well underway. Please check your child’s homework folder on Tuesday for their assigned speaking lines, which should be practised at home.

Another fantastic week of learning in p2/1!

In Literacy, we focused on the sounds ‘f’ and ‘o’. The children enjoyed identifying words which had each initial sound. We also enjoyed blending CVC words using our magnetic boards. We are growing in confidence when reading and writing!

In Maths, we enjoyed using concrete materials to add. We had fun finding symmetrical patterns using mirrors.

In the playroom we learned about Guy Fawkes. We enjoyed some lovely firework art and discussed how to keep ourselves safe.

A busy week of learning in p2/1.
In Numeracy, we started our addition journey. Following on from number bonds to 10 we explored sums this week and can now confidently identify the addition and equal sign. We are using concrete materials to help us. In maths we have started to learn about symmetry. We used pladough to create the other half of pictures to make them symmetrical on both sides. 💫

In literacy, we are continuing to work on describing characters. P2/1 are having a go at sounding out unfamiliar words by using their knowledge of initial sounds. We introduced two new initial sounds ‘g’ and l’ and enjoyed identifying objects that begin with both. Please continue to practise tricky words at home as this helps us with our reading and writing.

In the playroom we have enjoyed ‘printing’ painting with apples to create the shape of a pumpkin 🎃. Lots of children have also used their understanding of addition this week to ‘add’ items to each cauldron and create a spell.

During our parent afternoon we enjoyed showing off our fabulous Numeracy skills. We are growing in confidence when exploring number and hope you all enjoyed it as much as we did.
