The Giant Heptathlon is our Indoor Secondary Athletics Championships.<\/p>\n
Based at the Emirates arena the Giant Heptathlon is made up of 8 events in total with the age group being S1\/2.<\/p>\n
Unlike many other Athletics events the Giant Heptathlon has all pupils taking part in all 7 morning events.<\/p>\n
We have up to 20 Secondary Schools taking part in this event.<\/p>\n
Each School brings along a team of 7 girls and 7 boys so we would have a maximum of 280 pupils.<\/p>\n
It is made up of 7 events in the morning: 600m; 60m; 60m hurdles; Shot Put; Standing Triple Jump; Long Jump and Javelin.<\/p>\n
In the afternoon pupils take part in separate girls and boys 6x100m relay races.<\/p>\n
Every time, throw and jump is recorded and entered into our databases so we have overall boys and girls top 3 for each event and also overall scores for each School.<\/p>\n
This allows every pupil to compete against each other across all the events.<\/p>\n
The event requires a lot of planning and staffing on the day but it’s worth it as the feedback from P.E. staff and pupils is great.<\/p>\n
This event is a great way for pupils to have a positive introduction to indoor Athletics at Secondary level and try lots of different events at our indoor International Athletics arena.<\/p>\n
