{"id":77,"date":"2023-11-20T13:43:39","date_gmt":"2023-11-20T13:43:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/gc\/parkviewps\/?page_id=77"},"modified":"2024-08-09T10:42:18","modified_gmt":"2024-08-09T09:42:18","slug":"parent-council","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/gc\/parkviewps\/parent-council\/","title":{"rendered":"Parent Council"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">Parent Councils are the formal representative body for parents \/ carers with children attending school.\u00a0 Parent Councils are different in each school to enable them to meet the needs of parents \/ carers locally.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">Parents are welcomed to :<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-aria-posinset=\"1\" data-aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">be involved with their child\u2019s education and learning;<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-aria-posinset=\"2\" data-aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">be active participants in the life of the school; and<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-aria-posinset=\"3\" data-aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">express their views on school education generally and work in partnership with their children&#8217;s schools.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">All parents \/ carers are automatically members of the Parent Forum at their child\u2019s school.\u00a0 As a member of the Parent Forum all parents can expect to:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-aria-posinset=\"1\" data-aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">receive information about the school and its activities;<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-aria-posinset=\"2\" data-aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">hear about what partnership with parents means in our school;<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-aria-posinset=\"3\" data-aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">be invited to be involved in ways and times that suit you;<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-aria-posinset=\"4\" data-aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">identify issues you want the parent council to work on with the school;<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-aria-posinset=\"5\" data-aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">be asked your opinion by the parent council on issues relating to the school and the education it provides;<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-aria-posinset=\"6\" data-aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">work in partnership with staff; and<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-aria-posinset=\"7\" data-aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">enjoy taking part in the life of the school in whatever way possible.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">The Parent Forum decides how their representatives on the Parent Council are chosen and how the Parent Council operates.\u00a0 Parents \/ carers are encouraged to volunteer or put themselves forward to be chosen as representatives of the Parent Council if they wish.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">The main aims of the Parent Council are:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-aria-posinset=\"1\" data-aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">to support the school in its work with pupils<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-aria-posinset=\"2\" data-aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">to represent the views of parents<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-aria-posinset=\"3\" data-aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">to promote contact between the school, parents, pupils, providers of nursery education\u00a0(if applicable)\u00a0and the community<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-aria-posinset=\"4\" data-aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">to report to the Parent Forum<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-aria-posinset=\"5\" data-aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">to be involved in the appointment of senior promoted staff.<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-aria-posinset=\"6\" data-aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">to raise funds for the school for the benefit of pupils (in some schools the PTA fulfils this role)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000000\">Parent Council Members<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">Lyndsay Kennedy, Chair<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Parent Councils are the formal representative body for parents \/ carers with children attending school.\u00a0 Parent Councils are different in each school to enable them to meet the needs of parents \/ carers locally.
