It is an approach designed to provide pupils with the knowledge, skills and attributes they need for learning, life and work in the 21<sup>st<\/sup>\u00a0century. It aims to enable every child to be a:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">Successful Learner<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">Confident Individual<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">Responsible Citizen<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">Effective Contributor<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">The curriculum is defined as all the experiences that are planned for children and young people, including activity that would previously have been thought of as extra-curricular. Curriculum for Excellence recognises\u00a0<strong>four contexts for learning<\/strong>\u00a0through:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">Curriculum Areas<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">Interdisciplinary Learning<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">Opportunities for Personal Achievement<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">the Ethos and Life of the School as a Community.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">The eight curriculum areas are:<\/span><\/p>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"172\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">Expressive Arts<\/span><\/td>\n<td width=\"172\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">Health &amp;
