Children\u2019s rights are central to all aspects of UNICEF\u2019s work, including education, and we use the UNCRC as a framework for our activities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\"><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Key principles and provisions of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">The UNCRC consists of 54 articles. A \u2018child\u2019 is defined as every human being below the age of 18.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">The key provisions are:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">The right to a childhood<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">The right to be educated<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">The right to be healthy<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">The right to be treated fairly<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">The right to be heard<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.unicef.org.uk\/rights-respecting-schools\/funding-for-schools-in-scotland\/\"><u>Please click here to view the UNCRC articles.<\/u><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><span style=\"color: #000000\"><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Why teach about the Convention?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">Teaching children and young people about the UNCRC means that they can find out about the legal and human rights and responsibilities that underpin society. By learning about the Convention, children and young people in the UK can discover that:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: left\">\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">They have rights<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">They should be informed about their rights<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">They should be helped to exercise their rights<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">They should be able to enforce their rights<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">There should be a community of interest to advocate young people\u2019s rights<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">We have a Rights Respecting Committee which is a pupil led group with children from P2 \u2013 P7.
