Measuring weather

Today we watched a video on how to make a rain gauge. A rain gauge measures how much rain has fallen. After we’d watched the video, Mrs Cameron asked us what we thought we would need to make our own. She gave us the things we’d asked for and asked us to try and work out how to put it all together to make a rain gauge that would work. She gave us a plastic bottle with the top cut off, the cut-off top, a measuring tape, some paperclips and some sticky tape. We had all watched the video very carefully and we had our thinking brains working so we had asked for all the right things and the only thing any of us needed any help with was the sticky tape. Mrs Cameron was very impressed with us!

We took them outside and put them in an open area, away from the building and trees so we made it a fair test. After a while, we’ll go out and check how much rain has fallen since we put them out. We can’t wait for it to rain!
