Calderglen Adventures

Today we had a fabulous time at Calderglen zoo and park. We headed off at 9.30 am and arrived just as the zoo opened. We were first there and more or less had the place to ourselves. We were remembering all the things about our Topic and the Needs & Wants of the animals so we were really careful not to be too noisy or to do anything that would affect how happy the animals might be. It was really interesting to see how all the different animals had different types of homes, especially because that’s what we expected. We knew what quite a lot of the different types of animals needs were so it was good to see that we had learned everything well. There were information cards on each cage that told us if the animals ate meat or plants etc and a passerby was very impressed to hear P2 boys chatting about omnivores, herbivores & carnivores and concluding that one of the animals was a carnivore because it ate small creatures.

After we’d seen all the animals, we headed to the play-park which was pretty awesome. We spent an hour there having a brilliant time, climbing, bouncing, sliding, swinging, shouting, laughing, running and getting a bit wet and a bit muddy.

We ended the trip with a picnic beside the zoo and then headed back to school. On the bus there was a little bit of singing and then a little bit of snoozing when three of us fell asleep after our big adventure. What a brilliant day, made even more special by the amazing behaviour of everyone in our class. Yet again, Mrs Cameron was very very proud to be looking after such super children!
