We aim to provide learning experiences which support and challenge every learner, recognise individual needs and encourage children to become active and enthusiastic participants in their learning.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"890\" data-end=\"1065\">As a Catholic school, our faith and Gospel values are at the heart of school life, shaping our curriculum, relationships and the opportunities we provide for our children.<\/p>\n<h2 data-section-id=\"i35cxi\" data-start=\"1067\" data-end=\"1098\">\ud83c\udf1f Curriculum for Excellence<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"1100\" data-end=\"1187\">Curriculum for Excellence aims to support every child and young person to develop as a:<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1189\" data-end=\"1292\"><strong data-start=\"1189\" data-end=\"1211\">Successful Learner<\/strong><br data-start=\"1211\" data-end=\"1214\" \/><strong data-start=\"1214\" data-end=\"1238\">Confident Individual<\/strong><br data-start=\"1238\" data-end=\"1241\" \/><strong data-start=\"1241\" data-end=\"1264\">Responsible Citizen<\/strong><br data-start=\"1264\" data-end=\"1267\" \/><strong data-start=\"1267\" data-end=\"1292\">Effective Contributor<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1294\" data-end=\"1402\">These are known as the <strong data-start=\"1317\" data-end=\"1336\">Four Capacities<\/strong> and are developed across all aspects of school life and learning.<\/p>\n<h2 data-section-id=\"1uqriib\" data-start=\"1404\" data-end=\"1430\">\ud83d\udcda Our Curriculum Areas<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"1432\" data-end=\"1491\">Children experience learning across eight curriculum areas:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1493\" data-end=\"1690\">\n<li data-section-id=\"l2xca4\" data-start=\"1493\" data-end=\"1519\"><strong data-start=\"1495\" data-end=\"1519\">Literacy and English<\/strong><\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"19diki5\" data-start=\"1520\" data-end=\"1550\"><strong data-start=\"1522\" data-end=\"1550\">Numeracy and Mathematics<\/strong><\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"13dkmmi\" data-start=\"1551\" data-end=\"1577\"><strong data-start=\"1553\" data-end=\"1577\">Health and Wellbeing<\/strong><\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"1gnlf4x\" data-start=\"1578\" data-end=\"1613\"><strong data-start=\"1580\" data-end=\"1613\">Religious and Moral Education<\/strong><\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"16j2whb\" data-start=\"1614\" data-end=\"1628\"><strong data-start=\"1616\" data-end=\"1628\">Sciences<\/strong><\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"1uc14je\" data-start=\"1629\" data-end=\"1649\"><strong data-start=\"1631\" data-end=\"1649\">Social Studies<\/strong><\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"18vubks\" data-start=\"1650\" data-end=\"1671\"><strong data-start=\"1652\" data-end=\"1671\">Expressive Arts<\/strong><\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"jnj488\" data-start=\"1672\" data-end=\"1690\"><strong data-start=\"1674\" data-end=\"1690\">Technologies<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"1692\" data-end=\"1852\">Literacy, numeracy and health and wellbeing are developed across learning, giving children opportunities to apply these important skills in a range of contexts.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1854\" data-end=\"2047\">Within our Catholic school, Religious Education is taught through <strong data-start=\"1920\" data-end=\"1941\">This Is Our Faith<\/strong>, supporting children in developing their faith and understanding as they progress through primary school.<\/p>\n<h2 data-section-id=\"56lgo6\" data-start=\"2049\" data-end=\"2089\">\ud83d\udcc8 Progression Through Primary School<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"2091\" data-end=\"2226\">Curriculum for Excellence is organised into different curriculum levels. During the primary years, children generally progress through:<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2228\" data-end=\"2384\"><strong data-start=\"2228\" data-end=\"2243\">Early Level<\/strong> \u2013 typically Nursery and Primary 1<br data-start=\"2277\" data-end=\"2280\" \/><strong data-start=\"2280\" data-end=\"2295\">First Level<\/strong> \u2013 typically Primary 2 to Primary 4<br data-start=\"2330\" data-end=\"2333\" \/><strong data-start=\"2333\" data-end=\"2349\">Second Level<\/strong> \u2013 typically Primary 5 to Primary 7<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2386\" data-end=\"2621\">These levels provide a guide to progression rather than a fixed timetable. Children learn and develop at different rates, and teachers plan learning to provide appropriate support, pace, challenge and depth for individual learners.<\/p>\n<h2 data-section-id=\"hfa8ns\" data-start=\"2623\" data-end=\"2655\">\ud83e\udd1d Learning &amp; Teaching at OLA<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"2657\" data-end=\"2749\">We want learning at OLA to be active, engaging, inclusive and appropriately challenging.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2751\" data-end=\"2954\">Children are encouraged to take an active role in their learning. They have regular opportunities to talk, collaborate, investigate, problem-solve, create, make choices and reflect on their progress.<\/p>\n<h3 data-section-id=\"khfejf\" data-start=\"2956\" data-end=\"2986\">Kagan Cooperative Learning<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"2988\" data-end=\"3094\">Kagan Cooperative Learning is an important part of our whole-school approach to learning and teaching.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3096\" data-end=\"3306\">Through carefully selected cooperative learning structures, children have regular opportunities to work together purposefully, share their thinking, listen to others and contribute to their team&#8217;s learning.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3308\" data-end=\"3516\">Kagan helps us create classrooms in which every child is actively involved and every child has a voice, while developing important skills such as communication, cooperation, confidence and responsibility.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3518\" data-end=\"3680\">Teachers use Kagan alongside a wide range of other teaching approaches, selecting the methods which best meet the needs of learners and the purpose of the lesson.<\/p>\n<h2 data-section-id=\"1cy92us\" data-start=\"3682\" data-end=\"3712\">\ud83c\udf0d Learning Beyond Subjects<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"3714\" data-end=\"3849\">Children are given opportunities to make connections across their learning and apply their knowledge and skills in meaningful contexts.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3851\" data-end=\"4071\">This includes opportunities for digital learning, outdoor learning, interdisciplinary learning, sustainability and Laudato Si&#8217;, pupil leadership, creativity and engagement with our school, parish and wider community.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4073\" data-end=\"4252\">Through these experiences, we aim to help children understand that learning does not happen only within individual subjects, but connects to their lives and the world around them.<\/p>\n<h2 data-section-id=\"h9oop1\" data-start=\"4254\" data-end=\"4293\">\ud83d\udd04 Scotland&#8217;s Curriculum is Evolving<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"4295\" data-end=\"4446\">Scotland&#8217;s curriculum is currently undergoing a national programme of curriculum improvement, building on the foundations of Curriculum for Excellence.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4448\" data-end=\"4661\">At OLA, we will continue to review and develop our curriculum in response to national and local guidance, ensuring our approach reflects current expectations while continuing to meet the needs of our children.<\/p>\n<h2>\ud83c\udfe0 Keeping Families Informed<\/h2>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">We believe that parents and carers are important partners in their children&#8217;s learning.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Our <strong>termly Curricular Newsletters<\/strong> provide families with an overview of the learning taking place in each class and highlight key areas of learning for the
