September’s Newsletter

Dear Parents & Guardians

The weeks are flying by here in Notre Dame and as usual the school is very busy with lots happening! Thanks to all of you who made it along to the Meet the Teacher event and supported our MacMillan event – we raised more than £400.

Next Thursday 25th September we plan to have a non-uniform day with all donations going to playground furniture. We are in desperate need of some new benches. Children can come to school in their own clothes, no football colours permitted. Donations can be made on Parent Pay or coins in the buckets on the day. We finish on Thursday for the long weekend with school reopening on Tuesday 30th September.

PE clothes

We are trying to encourage the children to change their clothes on PE days, as already mentioned. Children should have a change of t-shirt/shorts/leggings to participate in their PE lessons and this should be appropriate clothing. We have purchased some spare PE clothes for children who may forget but it would be really helpful if you could help with the organising of this.

Parking and restrictions

I would like to bring to your attention and remind you of the restrictions on Havelock Street. There should be no moving vehicles between 8.30am-9.15am and then again at 2.30pm-3.15pm, unless blue badge holder/emergency vehicles. This is for the safety of YOUR children. This week we had two parents double park on Havelock Street then one parent driving down over the yellow zigzag lines within this restricted time zone. This is completely selfish and dangerous behaviour. The photograph of the vehicles has been passed on to the local police and I have informed them of this situation. They plan to support us moving forward.

Staffing

We welcome back Miss Wells from maternity leave on Monday. Miss Wells will take over Miss Jones’ timetable. We will be sad to see Miss Jones leave, she has been a dedicated member of staff over the last couple of years and has made real connections with the children. She will remain with us in the short term, until she is placed in another school.

Christmas Panto

This year Cottiers are hosting a pantomime, and with it being right on our doorstep we decided to jump on the chance of going as we would save on travel costs. They very kindly offered us a discounted deal too! The whole school will have the opportunity to see this Panto in the weeks running up to Christmas – dates for each class to be confirmed. Tickets are £12.50 and this will be set up on Parent Pay. Families with more than 2 children will only pay for 2. If you would like to support other families you will have the option to pay £15 which in turn helps all families to be included.

PVG changes

There have been recent changes to the PVG scheme – this is where adults who work with vulnerable groups have to apply for disclosure, to ensure the safety of those they work with. For all volunteers in schools, it is required that a PVG is applied for from Glasgow City Council. We are in the process of looking at parents who are regular helpers in Notre Dame and applying for a PVG for them. To apply for a PVG we require you to provide details of an existing PVG (if you have one), photographic ID, proof of address, 5 years address history, full name and date of birth. If you would like us to apply for this for you, can you please get in touch with the office.

Contact details

If you wish to speak to a member of management then you can complete the online form below, stating your query and this way it will be directed to the correct person. You should use this form should you need to request a meeting. We aim to get back to you or resolve your issue within a week. https://forms.office.com/e/gkqr937rKb

You should be contacting the school office with regards to absences, appointments and lost property. You can do this by sending a message on the EduSpot app. The quickest and easiest way to report an absence is via the Pupil Absence Form at https://www.glasgow.gov.uk/pupilabsence.

Please do not send absence messages directly to the class teachers on Seesaw as these messages may be missed during teaching time and will result in absence messages being sent to parents.

Best Wishes

Tina MacDonald
