Bike Fixer – Part Two

Another set of instructions from John to help you fix a chain on your bike.

  1. Lean your bike against a wall or fence or turn it upside down. If you have a friend with you, ask them to hold it.
  2. Make sure there is nothing caught in the chain rings (see diagram) or chain.
  3. Check which gear your bike is in by looking at the cog set (see diagram).
  4. Lift your chain into the chain rings, matching the gear in the cog set.
  5. Spin the back wheel to make sure it’s on properly.
  6. If it jumps off, try again. This means there is plenty of oil on it. Cycle slowly at first to use up the oil.
  7. If it feels stiff, add some chain oil.

Happy Cycling!
