Curriculum<\/strong><\/u><\/h2>\n

The curriculum in Mount Florida Primary is carefully structured to ensure progression and continuity across a broad and balanced range of subject areas.<\/p>\n

The content and structure of the curriculum are regularly reviewed and updated, as is the methodology by which the curriculum is delivered. Through this we seek to enable our pupils to become successful learners, confident individuals, responsible citizens and effective contributors.<\/p>\n

Links are identified between different curricular subjects and to real life to ensure the curriculum is relevant and meaningful in supporting pupils in becoming active citizens in a modern society. We aim to develop our pupils as lifelong learners, by teaching them a range of lifeskills and strategies.<\/p>\n

Levels of study as outlined in the Curriculum for Excellence Guidelines are as follows:<\/p>\n

Early\u00a0–\u00a0the pre-school years and Primary 1 or later for some children<\/p>\n

First –\u00a0to the end of Primary 4, but earlier or later for some children<\/p>\n

Second\u00a0–\u00a0to the end of Primary 7, but earlier or later for some children<\/p>\n

Third\/ Fourth –\u00a0S1 to S3, but earlier for some<\/p>\n

Senior phase –\u00a0S4\u00a0to S6 and college or other means of study<\/p>\n

Bringing learning to life and life to learning<\/strong><\/u><\/h4>\n

Curriculum for Excellence enables professionals to teach subjects creatively, to work together across the school and with other schools, to share best practice and explore learning together.<\/p>\n

Curriculum for Excellence balances the importance of knowledge and skills.<\/p>\n

Every child is entitled to a broad and deep general education, whatever their level and ability.\u00a0 Every single teacher and practitioner will be responsible for literacy and numeracy \u2013 the language and numbers skills that unlock other subjects and are vital to everyday life.<\/p>\n

It develops skills for learning, life and work to help young people go on to further study, secure work and navigate life. It brings real life into the classroom, making learning relevant and helps young people apply lessons to their life beyond the classroom. It links knowledge in one subject area to another helping children understand the world and make connections. It develops skills so that children can think for themselves, make sound judgements, challenge, enquire and find solutions.<\/p>\n
