Staged Intervention Inclusion Meeting (SIIM)

At times a pupil may be presented at a Staged Intervention and Inclusion Meeting (SIIM) where the child’s Pastoral Care teacher, Principal Teacher of Support for Learning, Year Head and our Child Protection Coordinator will discuss the current the child’s barrier to learning or well-being. There is also a focus on the current level of support provided within school and an initial discussion of the supports that could be provided by our external partners.

The SIIM takes place weekly within Lourdes and a referral is made by the child’s Pastoral Care teacher. The initial concern could have been raised by the pupil, class teacher or the child’s carers. When making the referral, the Pastoral Care teacher will complete the SIIM matrix. This is used to capture the current barriers to learning, areas in which the pupil and the adults in their have demonstrated a degree of resilience and finally the outcomes we as a team wish to achieve for the young person. The outcomes may include looking again at the support provided within in the school or looking for external support by making a referral to Joint Support Team (JST) panel.

Joint Support Team Meeting (JST)

At the monthly JST meeting, professionals from education and other agencies may offer support and advice and a decision may be made for more specific input from the Educational Psychologist or other agencies. The Educational Psychologist will accept invitations to attend review/transition meetings for any child on their caseload along with other agencies involved.

Often other agencies may be involved in supporting a pupil’s educational needs. This may take the form of a consultation meeting between the agency, the parents and the school or involve direct input with the child in school.  Such agencies, Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language Therapy and Social Work Services, will work together with the school to provide a cohesive plan of support for the child and their parents.

Outside of the SIIM and JST, the pastoral care teams are in regular contact with our partners. Regular case reviews with agencies such as Social Work to discuss the child’s progress and at each stage capture the views of the child and their carers.

Multi-Agency Planning Teams

The team around the child approach ensures that all relevant stakeholders are involved in supporting a Young Person to reach their potential. We work regularly with a range of partners, some of which are highlighted below. Good communication is an essential component of this. All meetings are minuted and shared as part of this process. Trust and confidence in each other is also vital to ensure that discussions are robust and that we are able to professionally challenge decisions to ensure that we are getting it right for every child.
