INTRODUCTION\u00a0<\/h5>\n

The Sciences<\/strong> faculty comprises of a wide range of\u00a0 subject areas that can be studied throughout the Broad General Education<\/strong> and into the Senior Phase<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Our S1 Sciences<\/strong> course challenges pupils to engage with scientific concepts from our Universe’s past, its present and its future. The course allows pupils to develop key transferable skills in literacy and numeracy and prepares them for future study in sciences at Lochend CHS. Learning takes place in a variety of ways including through practical activities and investigations, independent and group research, class discussions, problem solving activities and independent class work.<\/p>\n

In\u00a0S2 Sciences<\/strong>, pupils will begin to experience the discrete sciences of\u00a0chemistry, physics and biology<\/strong>. Pupils continue to develop key transferable skills as well as deepening their knowledge and understanding of key concepts and issues in each of the sciences.<\/p>\n

In S3<\/strong>, pupils begin to personalise their curriculum and can continue to study\u00a0chemistry, physics, biology <\/strong>or\u00a0science<\/strong>, or a combination of two. Further information about the S3 courses can be found in the subject specific pages.<\/p>\n

Our Senior Phase<\/strong> courses are open to pupils in S4, S5 and S6. Usually, pupils will study up to National 5 (Level 5) in S4, and can progress to Higher (Level 6) in S5. Our Senior Phase<\/strong> courses provide pupils with the opportunity to specialise and gain formal SQA qualifications in various fields of science. Our Senior Phase<\/strong> courses, offered in session 2022-2023, are:<\/p>\n
