{"id":334,"date":"2022-01-16T20:59:02","date_gmt":"2022-01-16T20:59:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/gc\/kpsshealthandwellbeing\/?page_id=334"},"modified":"2023-03-03T10:45:12","modified_gmt":"2023-03-03T10:45:12","slug":"family-support","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/gc\/kpsshealthandwellbeing\/health-and-wellbeing\/family-support\/","title":{"rendered":"Financial Support and School Meals"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>At King&#8217;s Park Secondary School we strive to ensure finances do not create barriers to learning or restrict opportunities for our young people.\u00a0 The Scottish Government has made the cost of the school day and closing the attainment gap key priorities in education and we take this responsibility seriously.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Breakfast Club<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We are delighted to run a breakfast club in our school to ensure all young people have access to a healthy and nutritious meal to start the day.\u00a0 The club is open to all pupils and no prior sign up is required.\u00a0 The location is in our pupil support room on the ground floor in the main school building.\u00a0 Breakfast is available from 8:15am.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;font-weight: bold\">Fuel Zone<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-229 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/gc\/public\/p7transition\/uploads\/sites\/11310\/2021\/03\/05124056\/red-apple-facebook.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"71\" height=\"71\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The catering facilities in King\u2019s Park Secondary School are very good and are available on a cafeteria basis with facilities for snack\/fast food and set meals.<\/p>\n<p>The Fuel Zone operates a cashless system using parent pay.<\/p>\n<h5>Interval<\/h5>\n<p>At morning intervals you can purchase various hot and cold snacks from the Fuel Zone, or from the vending machines located in the dining area. Water is freely available to you at all times from the dispensers.<\/p>\n<h5>Lunchtime<\/h5>\n<p>If you are entitled to a free lunchtime meal your card will be automatically credited every day with an allowance equivalent to the cost of a main meal.\u00a0 You can use your free meal allowance at any time that day, to buy hot or cold snacks and drinks as an alternative to a main meal.<\/p>\n<p>Applications for the free school meals programme can be obtained from the Grants Section at Education Services headquarters or from the school.<\/p>\n<p>Fruit is free in the cafeteria to any young person who asks for it.\u00a0 A kind gesture from our staff to support our young people.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>Free School Meals<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>All secondary schools are able to offer free school meals to young people in certain circumstances.\u00a0 To find out if your young person is eligible please do not hesitate to contact their pupil support teacher.\u00a0 More information can be found by following this link: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mygov.scot\/school-meals\">https:\/\/www.mygov.scot\/school-meals<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Cost of the School Day<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In addition to breakfast club and free school meals we offer a number of other financial supports to our young people.\u00a0 Pupils no longer have to contribute money towards any of their core subject studies.\u00a0 For example, in Home Economics young people used to pay \u00a31 per dish for ingredients.\u00a0 Costs like this are now no longer applicable.\u00a0 Financial support is also available for school uniform and PE kit if required.\u00a0 Please contact pastoral care for support with this.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Period Poverty<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Scottish Government have made an investment to make sure essential products will be available to those who need them in a sensitive and dignified way.\u00a0 Free sanatory products are always available at the school office, the pastoral care base and in the female toilets.<\/p>\n<p>Hot water bottles can be requested at the Pastoral Care base<\/p>\n<p><strong>Nurture Boxes<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The school has developed nurture boxes for young people to access if they are in need as another means of support to young people who&#8217;s families may be struggling financially.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pupil Equity Funding and Attainment Challenge<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>All departments in the school have the opportunity to bid for funding specifically earmarked to help close the attainment gap and ensure equity for all learners.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>At King&#8217;s Park Secondary School we strive to ensure finances do not create barriers to learning or restrict opportunities for our young people.\u00a0 The Scottish Government has made the cost of the school day and closing the attainment gap key priorities in education and we take this responsibility seriously.
