{"id":191,"date":"2018-02-28T17:47:31","date_gmt":"2018-02-28T17:47:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/gc\/kpsshealthandwellbeing\/?page_id=191"},"modified":"2022-01-24T20:03:02","modified_gmt":"2022-01-24T20:03:02","slug":"extra-curricular-clubs","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/gc\/kpsshealthandwellbeing\/extra-curricular-clubs\/","title":{"rendered":"Extra Curricular Clubs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Our most recent sports timetable can be found here: <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/gc\/public\/kpsshealthandwellbeing\/uploads\/sites\/9565\/2022\/01\/17162834\/Sports-Clubs-2021-1.docx\">Sports Clubs 2021 (1)<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Physical Education Department are fully aware of the Health and Wellbeing benefits associated with extra curricular sport.\u00a0 As a result we are passionate about offering as many opportunities as possible for our young people to participate in sports clubs and teams.\u00a0 Our three main aims are to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Offer a variety of extra curricular clubs at lunchtimes and after school<\/li>\n<li>Participate in local and national competitions<\/li>\n<li>Develop links with local sports clubs to create pathways for lifelong participation and to allow for elite performance development<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These three key aims will in turn help to improve pupils practical skills as well as their social skills.\u00a0 In addition they will help to combat mental health problems and childhood obesity.<\/p>\n<p>The activities we offer change on a regular basis.\u00a0 This is because we want to run activities that our pupils ask for.\u00a0 We have a strong focus on increasing the number of unique and distinct participants in our clubs.\u00a0 This means that we target groups of inactive pupils in the school and run clubs specifically for them.\u00a0 An excellent example of this is our Integration Centre fitness club.\u00a0 This club is for Integration Centre pupils only and has resulted in a number of inactive pupils becoming active for a variety of different reasons.<\/p>\n<p>Our Sports Clubs are run by:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Volunteer Staff<\/li>\n<li>Sports Leaders<\/li>\n<li>Young Ambassadors<\/li>\n<li>Active Schools<\/li>\n<li>Specialist Coaches<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Clubs change depending on demand.\u00a0 Up to date timetables are displayed in the PE department and a tannoy announcement is made weekly to inform pupils what clubs are running.\u00a0 The following clubs have all run recently with varying rates of participation.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Fitness Room<\/li>\n<li>Netball<\/li>\n<li>Indoor\/Outdoor Football<\/li>\n<li>Table Tennis<\/li>\n<li>Basketball<\/li>\n<li>Boxing<\/li>\n<li>Gymnastics<\/li>\n<li>Dance<\/li>\n<li>Badminton<\/li>\n<li>Volleyball<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Our clubs are well supported by our Active Schools Co-ordinator.\u00a0 If you have any questions or suggestions for our clubs please do not hesitate to contact him at:<\/p>\n<p>gw22kellyrobbie@glow.ea.glasgow.sch.uk<\/p>\n<p>One of our many school teams below.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-418\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/gc\/public\/kpsshealthandwellbeing\/uploads\/sites\/9565\/2022\/01\/24200238\/School-team-2022-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"474\" height=\"632\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/gc\/public\/kpsshealthandwellbeing\/uploads\/sites\/9565\/2022\/01\/24200238\/School-team-2022-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/gc\/public\/kpsshealthandwellbeing\/uploads\/sites\/9565\/2022\/01\/24200238\/School-team-2022-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/gc\/public\/kpsshealthandwellbeing\/uploads\/sites\/9565\/2022\/01\/24200238\/School-team-2022.jpg 945w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 474px) 100vw, 474px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Our most recent sports timetable can be found here: Sports Clubs 2021 (1) The Physical Education Department are fully aware of the Health and Wellbeing benefits associated with extra curricular sport.\u00a0 As a result we are passionate about offering as many opportunities as possible for our young people to participate in sports clubs and teams.\u00a0 &hellip;
