Learners will acquire attributes which will be important for their life and work.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s2\">\n<p class=\"s2\"><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">Content covered here is Crime and the Law; Democracy in Scotland and the UK and our chosen World Issue \u2013 Terrorism. \u00a0Pupils must complete three end-of-unit assessments to pass the course and also an Added Value Unit (a research project) is compulsory at National 4 level. \u00a0This research project lets the students choose an area of particular interest to them and investigate it through their own personal research supported by their class teacher.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s2\"><span class=\"s35\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">National 5<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s2\"><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">Content here is the same as in the National 3\/4 course. However, this course has an external SQA assessment and<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\"> an Assignment which makes up 20<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">% of the overall grade. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s2\"><span class=\"s35\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">Higher <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s2\"><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">The Higher course has three broad curricular areas which are: <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"s28\"><span class=\"s23\">\u2022 <\/span><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">Crime and the Law<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"s28\"><span class=\"s23\">\u2022 <\/span><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">Democracy in Scotland and the UK.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"s28\"><span class=\"s23\">\u2022 <\/span><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">International Issues \u2013 Development in Africa.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<p class=\"s2\">\n<p class=\"s2\"><span class=\"s35\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">Entry Requirements<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s2\"><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">National 3 course &gt; National 4 course; National 4 course &gt; National 5 cou<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">rse; National 5 course <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s95\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">with A-C<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s95\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\"> pass <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">&gt; Higher course; Higher course pass &gt; Hi<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">gher Politics; Higher course A\/C<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">pass &gt; Advanced Higher Modern Studies course (run currently by Glasgow Caledonian University Hub).<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s2\"><span class=\"s35\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">Assessment<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s2\"><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">The National 5 exam consists of the assignme<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">nt write-up (1 hour) and a 2h 20<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">m exam. <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s95\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">The Higher assessment<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s95\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\"> consists of a 1h 30m assignment and two exam papers. Paper 1 <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s95\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">(1h 45m) <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s95\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">essay based<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s95\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">and Paper 2 (1h 15m) Skills based.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s2\">\n<p class=\"s2\"><span class=\"s35\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">Progression <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s2\"><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">Many employers and universities regard a qualification in Modern Studies as particularly valuable.
