You will learn critical terminology appropriate to media analysis such as: camera shots, angles and editing techniques, and understand how to analyse and evaluate these techniques.<\/p>\n<p>National 5\u00a0\u2013\u00a0Pupils will develop the ability to analyse media content, develop knowledge of media literacy and the role of media in society as well as creating media content.<\/p>\n<p>Higher \u2013 Pupils will build on their ability to critically analyse a wide range of media texts, deepen their understanding of media literacy and the complex role of media in shaping society, and further develop skills in planning and producing their own media content.<\/p>\n<p><u>Assessment<\/u><\/p>\n<p>The National 5 Media exam is out of 50 marks and tests candidates\u2019 knowledge on many aspects of the media including: \u00a0technical and cultural codes, target audiences and how the media affects peoples\u2019 behaviour and attitudes.<\/p>\n<p>National 5 \u2013 Candidates complete a practical assignment worth 50 marks, where they plan, create and evaluate a piece of media content. This allows them to demonstrate their creative skills and understanding of how media texts are constructed to meet audience needs.<\/p>\n<p>The Higher Media exam is out of 60 marks and assesses candidates\u2019 knowledge and understanding of media concepts, including technical and cultural codes, representation, audience engagement, and the wider social, political and economic impact of media on attitudes and behaviour.<\/p>\n<p>Higher \u2013 Candidates undertake a practical assignment worth 50 marks, requiring them to research, plan, produce and evaluate a more complex media product. This assignment assesses their ability to apply advanced knowledge of media concepts, codes and conventions, and to reflect critically on the effectiveness of their creative choices.<\/p>\n<p><u>Progression<\/u><\/p>\n<p>The media has never before had such an impact on every aspect of our lives. The things we talk about, the opinions we hold and the choices we make are being constantly shaped by the information we now have access to 24 hours a day.\u00a0\u00a0This course will encourage you to think more carefully about where this information comes from and crucially how it influences you and others around you.<\/p>\n<p>If you pass National 5 Media, you can progress onto Higher.
