Current political and international issues cannot be fully understood without an appreciation of their roots in the past. To understand the society and world of today \u2013 you need to study History. History also develops a wide range of skills \u2013 powers of critical thinking, better use of language, improved writing skills.<\/p>\n<p class=\"s64\">\n<p class=\"s64\"><span class=\"s35\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">National 4\/5<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s64\"><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">The National 4\/5 course enables learners to acquire knowledge and understanding, evaluate historical sources, be able to explain the impact of historical developments, analyse factors contributing towards historical developments and draw reasoned conclusions.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s64\"><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">National 4 &amp; 5 courses have 3 distinct units:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s67\"><span class=\"s24\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">* A British topic \u2013 The Atlantic Slave Trade, 1770 \u2013 1807<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s67\"><span class=\"s24\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">* A Scottish topic \u2013 The Era of the Great War, 1910 &#8211; 1928<\/span><\/span>\u200b\u200b<\/p>\n<p class=\"s67\"><span class=\"s24\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">* A European and World topic \u2013 Hitler and Nazi Germany, 1919 &#8211; 39 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s67\">\n<p class=\"s64\"><span class=\"s35\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">Higher History<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s64\">\n<p class=\"s64\"><span class=\"s24\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">Entry Requirements <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"s65\"><span class=\"s23\">\u2022 <\/span><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">Pass at<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\"> National 5 Level<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"s65\"><span class=\"s23\">\u2022 <\/span><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">Higher in English or another Social Subject.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<p class=\"s64\">\n<p class=\"s64\"><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">The Higher course consists of 3 units:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s70\">\n<div class=\"s65\"><span class=\"s23\">\u2022 <\/span><span class=\"s24\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">Scottish History. Migration and Empire 1830 \u2013 1939<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<p class=\"s64\"><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">This is a source-handling unit and consists of answering questions based on a set of sources.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"s65\"><span class=\"s23\">\u2022 <\/span><span class=\"s24\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">British History. Britain 1851 \u2013 1951<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<p class=\"s64\"><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">An essay has to be written on 1 of the topics covered.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"s65\"><span class=\"s23\">\u2022 <\/span><span class=\"s24\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">European and the World. Appeasement and the Road to War, to 1939<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<p class=\"s64\"><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">An essay has to be written on 1 of the topics covered.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s64\">\n<p class=\"s64\"><span class=\"s35\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">Advanced Higher History<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s64\">\n<p class=\"s64\"><span class=\"s24\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">Entry Requirements<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"s65\"><span class=\"s23\">\u2022 <\/span><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">Grades A or B at Higher History.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<p class=\"s64\"><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">The Advanced Higher course studies \u2013 <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s24\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">Germany: From Democracy to Dictatorship, 1918-39.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s64\">\n<p class=\"s64\"><span class=\"s35\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">Assessment<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s64\"><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">At National 4 the course assessment consists of 2 components: an end of unit assessment for each unit must be passed and an Added Value Unit (a research project).<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s64\">\n<p class=\"s64\"><span class=\"s95\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">At National 5 there is an assignment worth 20% of overall grade along with an exam (2h 20m). \u00a0At Higher there are two question papers worth 80 marks <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s95\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">in total <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s95\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">and an assignment worth 30 marks.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s64\">\n<p class=\"s64\"><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">At Advanced Higher the course consists of 2 components: a dissertation worth 50% and a final exam paper.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s64\">\n<p class=\"s64\"><span class=\"s35\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">Progression<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s64\"><span class=\"s25\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">Employers know the skills you have learnt in History will equip you well in whatever line of work you take up. History is seen as a valuable qualification in many jobs \u2013 Lew, Journalism, Broadcasting, Accountancy, Architecture, the Civil Service, Libraries, and Museum Service. \u00a0Higher History is a valued entrance qualification for any course at University or College. \u00a0History can also create an interest and enjoyment which stays with you throughout your life.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>How can we understand the world we live in without History?
